KEPFOS WSP COMPOSITION: Contains per g: Fosfomycin calcium 250 mg Fructose 1.6 diphosphate tri-sodium 180 mg DESCRIPTION: Fosfomycin (FOS) is a natural bactericidal broad-spectrum antibiotic which acts on proliferating bacteria by inhibiting cell wall and early murein/peptidoglycan synthesis. Fosfomycin acts bactericidal against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Other properties of this drug include inhibition of bacterial adhesion to epithelial cells, exopolysaccharide biofilm penetration, immunomodulatory effect, phagocytosis promotion and protection against nephrotoxicity caused by other drugs. Fosfomycin has, due to its low protein binding, a very good tissue penetration. In Kepfos wsp, fosfomycin is linked to fructose. Fructose is an important source of energy for bacteria. Bacteria actively transport fructose into the cell, thereby also taking up the fosfomycin. In this way, the fosfomycin can be much more effective. INDICATIONS: In poultry, Kepfos wsp is indicated for the treatment of tracheitis, airsacculitis, peritonitis and omphalitis caused by E. Coli, Campylobacter, Pasteurella multocida (Fowl cholera), Avibacterium paragallinarum (Infectious coryza), Salmonella pullorum (Pullorum disease) and Staphylococci infections. In pigs, Kepfos wsp is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by Haemophilus parasuis (Glässers disease), Streptococcus suis (meningitis), Pasteurella multocida (acute pasteurellosis), Bordetella bronchiseptica (atrophic rhinitis), Staphylococcus hyicus (exudative dermatitis), and Escherichia coli (enteritis). CONTRA-INDICATIONS: Do not administer to animals with a severe impaired renal function. Do not use in layers producing eggs for human consumption. SIDE EFFECTS: Sometimes a mild diarrhoea can be seen during or after treatment. INCOMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER DRUGS: None. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: For oral administration via drinking water Poultry (broilers): Use amount of Kepfos wsp as stated in table in 100 litres of drinking water during 3 - 5 days. This is equivalent to 80 mg fosfomycin per kg bodyweight. Age in days Grams of Kepfos wsp 0 - 7 80 8 - 14 100 15 - 21 120 document.docx
