Student Teacher for Bess T. Shepard Elementary -2010In my second year as an Elementary Education major, I was assigned to study

under Dr. Emeri Gordon who is the fifth grade teacher at Bess T. Shepard Elementary School in Hamilton County, TN. I learned valuable teaching skills from this experience, and was able to build a rapport with one of the most effective teachers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I also learned valuable knowledge on how to effectively teach a group of young children with various intellectual capabilities, while also learning how to be a more effective communicator.

Front Desk Receptionist for Southern Adventist University Boys dorm -2013For a year, I had the opportunity to work under Dean Kevin Pride at Southern Adventist

University. Working at the front desk of a university helped me develop my ability to multi-task, while also teaching me the importance of being quick on my feet. As a front desk worker you are constantly interacting with the student body, the parents of students, prospective students, faculty and visitors. In case of emergency, we are taught protocol for several scenarios in order to ensure the safety of the student body.

Internship at Southern Adventist Universities Counseling and Testing Center -2013At the Counseling and Testing Center, I became efficient in using several computer

programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint in order to create documents such as flyers, pamphlets and tables. I coordinated campus wide events to help promote consciousness of Alcohol Awareness Week, Domestic Abuse Awareness Week and Suicide Awareness Month. I also contacted speakers and agencies to speak at campus held events as a part of promoting awareness of the events.

Southern Adventist Universities Planning Committee -2013As a member of SAU’s Planning Committee, I helped orchestrate campus wide events

such as Back-to-School parties. I would liaise with musicians to play at events and contact restaurants to cater at school events. For on-campus parties such as the Back-to-School parties, members of the planning committee would be expected to socialize with the student body while also promoting interest in the particular event taking place at their booth i.e. (including video games, karaoke, obstacle courses and so on).

Developed Skills

1. Interpersonal and Communication skills:

I spent two years of my collegiate career as an Elementary Education major. Throughout those two years I developed a passion for working with young people, while also developing my communication skills. It has been said throughout history that it is easy to understand information but difficult to teach. During these two years I had to not only understand what I was teaching to these young children, but also be able to explain it to them in a manner in which they would understand. Working with children requires a lot of patience, and also requires the individual in the teaching position to be a good listener. I believe that these two qualities that I have not necessarily gained, but developed from my experience as a student teacher, have helped make me a competent communicator.

2. Creative Skills:For years, I have been heavily involved in my schools’ art programs. In high school I

took (2) years of drawing classes. I read a lot and believe myself to have an above average vocabulary. As stated earlier, I also enjoy writing and believe myself to be a gifted writer.

Skills and Qualifications

1. Conducted a psychological study yielding quantitative data regarding the influence of Birth Order on Achievement and Personality Type on Young Adults.

2. Extensive knowledge of SPSSX and SAS statistical programs.3. Competent in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Excel.

Personal Interests:
