A geographic information system (GIS) integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information.
What is GIS?
GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts.

GIS is part of the process not merely the end result – “a pretty map”
What is GIS used for?

Examples of OutputsVisualising sensitivity
Example: Fin fish farm and habitats vulnerable to water flow rate

We can map the marine environment in a variety of ways
We can understand confidence & effort
We can look at change through time and under different scenarios
Build a picture of sensitivity and vulnerability
