Experience OGLEBAY RESORTMore than a hundred years ago, a tradition of generous hospitality was started at the summer estate of Earl W. Oglebay in Wheeling, West Virginia. Today, Oglebay Resort and Conference Center offers 1,700 acres of year-round recreational opportunities and excellent overnight accommodations but has retained its picturesque natural beauty. For generations, families, groups and individuals have indulged in the tradition and spirit that make Oglebay unique. The 270-room Wilson Lodge at Oglebay features 59 premium guest rooms, the West Spa, fine and casual dining, indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, fitness center, wireless Internet and a business center. Oglebay has downhill skiing and snowboarding during the winter months. Visitors of all ages will be delighted by the Good Zoo at Oglebay with 30 acres of animals, a mile-and-a-half train ride,

indoor Discovery Lab and 0-gauge train exhibit. The Mansion Museum (Mr. Oglebay’s summer home) the Glass Museum, Environmental Education Center, and eight specialty shops are also highlights of Oglebay. The natural beauty of Oglebay can be enjoyed with a stroll along brick walking paths in the magnificent gardens. These gardens are a 16-acre recreation of the gardens that existed in the early 1900s when Oglebay was still a private estate. Over 50,000 tulips, daffodils and hyacinths herald spring’s arrival and the summer months feature colorful annuals blooming from the beds and dangling from over 200 hanging baskets. In November and December, Oglebay features one of America’s largest holiday light shows, the Winter Festival of Lights. This driving show dazzles visitors with over a million lights on a six-mile drive displayed over 300 acres.

Total Lunar EclipseAn evening event, observers will start to notice changes in lunar brightness around 7:30 pm, by 8:00 pm the Moon just enters the Earth’s central shadow called the “umbra”. From here on the Moon will start to darken, change color, and will continue into the central portion of the Earth’s Shadow. Notice how the Earth’s shadow is circular – showing that the shape of the Earth is close to spherical. Also note the color change of the Moon. The Moon will become red around 9:00 pm for local observers while being totally within the Earth’s umbra (shadow). By 10:30 pm the Moon will start to emerge from the Earth’s shadow and will be completely bright again by 11:30 pm.
