A Note from Pastor Joel…
Hi Church Family!
This is one of my favorite seasons of the year. Football is in full swing and the holidays are right around the corner. Doesn’t it always seem like as the weather gets colder, the food gets better, and people’s attitudes are merrier? As fun and happy as this season can be, it
can also be a very hard time for some who have suffered a loss of or are just plain lonely.
All throughout the Bible we have examples of how giving and caring for others is what Christians are called to do. If we look at the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), Jesus of-fers up some firm challenges to us and the way we treat others. In verses 5:13-16, Jesus uses salt and light as examples of how his followers should be seen and felt in our communities.
Let’s take a look:
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the
same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16 (ESV)
Let’s allow God’s ridiculous generosity to spill freely from each of us as we approach this hol-iday season. If God was willing to send his son for us, then surely we can take an extra step to be generous and caring during this time. This doesn’t have to be anything big; even a
simple act of kindness can go a great distance.
My prayer for our church body is that the Holy Spirit would lead us to do his work. That we would see people how he sees them and we would be willing to love them like he loves us. I hope that when people come into contact with someone from Bethlehem Chapel, they would have a bright-er outlook and feel a little more cheerful because
we cannot contain the joy he has given us!
Be Blessed!
-Pastor Joel

And now dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and
honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable, think about things that are excellent and
worthy of praise.
