Modifications were carried out at the fly ash unloading area, by constructing a dedicated control room to enable the operator to directly oversee the unloading of fly ash from silos and avoid spillage. This eliminated manual intervention and resulted in reduction of manpower costs.

Awards
Maamba Collieries Limited (MCL), Zambia, a step-down subsidiary of NBVL, received “Power Deal of the Year 2015” Award for its project finance transaction involving an estimated outlay of US$ 843 Million from Project Finance International (PFI) of Thomson-Reuters. The Award forms part of Roll of Honour announced by PFI. PFI Awards are the most prestigious annual awards, spread over a wide spectrum of industries and across continents. Mr.Ashwin Devineni, Resident Director, MCL and Mr.P.J.V.Sarma, Director, NBPL received the Award in London, in March. The National Safety Council, Hyderabad, on the occasion of 45th National Safety Day Celebrations, on 4th March, presented a Certificate of Appreciation & a Shield to NBVL and NBEIL, Paloncha, in recognition of being awarded the OHSAS 18001:2007 accreditation. The certificates and the shields were given away by Sri Naini Narasimha Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Home, Prisons, Fire Services, Sainik Welfare, Labour & Employment.

A new Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) was commissioned for casting of ferro alloy at furnace-IV, on 22nd February, enabling improvement in quality of the alloy produced and ease of handling the finished product. This also helped in reducing the handling costs and generation of fines. Mechanization was done for screening, packing and loading of finished product (SiMn) at the new shed constructed for this purpose. This resulted in reducing manpower costs.

The House Committee on Environment (Sub Committee IV) of Odisha Legislative Assembly visited Odisha Works on 27th January. Shri. Y. Pattanaik, VP (OW) welcomed the House Committee members. Later he gave a presentation on Company’s operations & measures taken for environment protection. He also gave an account of the awards received & CSR activities of the Company.

The testing and commissioning activities of 300 MW Power Plant at Maamba, Zambia, are in full swing.
The major milestones achieved during the quarter comprise completion of 330 kV Transmission Line,
installation of Electro Static Precipitator of Unit-1 & Fuel Oil System, commissioning of Kariba Water
Pumping System, DM Plant, Distributed Control System and Electrical System, and, construction of pre-
fab houses for O&M staff.

A delegation consisting of Mr. Yamakawa Junji, Nippon Steels, Japan, Mr. Yukio Takase, Asia Minerals Limited, Japan, Mr. Gautam Kumar, Asia Minerals Limited, Kolkata along with Mr. C.V. Durga Prasad, Director (Business Development) of our Company, visited our Works at Paloncha, on 9th February. Another delegation consisting of Ms.Nisawa and Mr. M. Fujii of Marubeni, Tokyo, Japan and Mr.A.K. Ghoshal of Marubeni, Kolkata, visited our Works at Paloncha, on 9th March.
Both the teams were impressed with the production procedures, housekeeping, CSR activities and the greenery developed in and around the factory.
Celebrations
The “45th National Safety Week” was celebrated at all our units, from 4th to 9th March. On this occasion, safety oath was administered to employees and contract workers. Various competitions, mock drills and training programmes were conducted for propagating safety awareness.
At Sugar Division, Mr.J. Siva Shankar Reddy, Dy. Chief Inspector of Factories, Kakinada and Mr. K.B. Prasad, Inspector of Factories were invited to give their valuable suggestions on Safety at Workplace.

1. External audits of QMS (ISO 9001), EMS (ISO 14001) and OHSMS (OHSAS 18001) at our Units at Paloncha and Samalkot were conducted, in February and March.

At Odisha Works, Smt. Lopamudra, Tahasildar, Odapada, Mr. Hrudaya Chandra Sahu, Dy. Director of Factories & Boilers, Dhenkanal & Angul Division, Mr. Bibhu Prasad, Asst. Director of Factories & Boilers, Dhenkanal Zone and Mr. Jitendra Kumar Bal, Asst. General Manager – HR & ESR, Power Grid, Govt. of Odisha participated in the closing ceremony. Prizes were given away to the winners of various competitions at Odisha Works and Sugar Division by the Guests.
Annual Cultural Programme was organised at Odisha Works, on 6th February for the employees and their family members. The students of Brahmani Public School, Kharagprasad, participated in the function and enthralled the audience through various programmes. Mr. Sudhir Kumar Samal, Ex-MLA, Dhenkanal, was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the cultural programme.

To provide safe drinking water at affordable cost
to villagers, the Company installed three RO
water plants around the Paloncha Unit. These
plants were inaugurated in March: at Indiranagar
by Mr. R. Bhaskaran, IPS, Asst. Supdt. Of Police,
Bhadrachalam; at Paapakollu by Mr. B. Surender
Rao, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Kothagudem
and at Machinapeta by Mr. B. Ravi Kumar,
Tahsildar, Julurupadu. The authorities
appreciated the efforts made by the Company
for improving the health and hygiene in the area.

Under the aegis of Nava Bharat Vocational Institute (NBVI), a sanitary napkin manufacturing unit has been established. The local poor women were given training in making sanitary napkins in this unit and provided self-employment by allowing them to use the equipment for manufacture of sanitary napkins. The product is marketed by themselves to earn their livelihood.

formed a group. NBVI created self-employment
opportunity for this group by obtaining work
orders, for stitching of uniforms for students of
Government Schools.

The proceeds received through this self-
employment opportunity were distributed among
the 32 women at a function organized, in
January. Mr. G. Pullaiah, Chief Monitoring
Officer, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Khammam, gave
away the amounts to the women.
A free Diabetes Camp was organized in Odisha
for the inhabitants of Meramandali, in February.
The follow up camp was organized in March for
these villagers. Medicines were distributed free
to the patients examined during the camp.
The camp was conducted by Dr.J.Kishore, MD,
Diabetologist, Bhubaneswar and his team
consisting of Dietician and paramedical staff. A
total of 203 villagers got benefitted by this
programme.

Primary School. The villagers appreciated the
efforts put in by the staff for making the school
premises neat and tidy.

Nava Bharat Schools, Paloncha celebrated the “37th Annual Day” on 27th & 28th January. Dr. N. Anji Reddy, Director, JNTU-Hyderabad graced the inaugural function as Chief Guest and gave away the prizes. Justice L. Narasimha Reddy, Retd. Chief Justice of Patna High Court attended the Valedictory function as Chief Guest. The students presented Cultural shows on both the days.

On the occasion of National Science Day i.e., 28th February, the students of Class IV & V of Nava Bharat Public School (NBPS) arranged a Science Exhibition on the theme “Agriculture”. Mr. B. Surender Rao, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Kothagudem inaugurated the exhibition and appreciated very much the efforts of the students.
The teachers and students of NBPS organized “Annual Charity Fair”, on the same day. Funds were raised by selling the hand-made handicrafts and eatables. The funds raised were used to procure & supply the materials needed by Sneha Old Age Home and Orphanage.
