NEED A HOME PHONE liNE iNsTAllED?

Building or renovating your home is an exciting journey. It’s also the perfect time to have a say in where your home phone is placed – and we’re here to make it easy for you.

Just use this guide to see what you should do to make the whole process go smoothly.

01 CAll UsStart by giving Telstra a call on 13 2200 or visiting telstra.com.au/movinghome – the earlier the better.

We’ll put you in touch with a Telstra Approved Contractor (TAC) who can take care of your trenching, cabling and telephone sockets. We can also let you know the costs involved in getting your new service connected.

02 DiG A TRENCHIf you’re building, chances are you’ll need to dig a trench from your boundary to your new home. You can get the TAC to do this, or you make your own arrangements to have the trench dug. Make sure you contact Dial Before You Dig if you’re making your own trenching so arrangements, you can avoid any buried pipes or cables – phone 1100 or visit dialbeforeyoudig.com.au

You should be able to use the one trench for all your utilities (power, gas, water, etc). Just check with your contractor and make sure they comply with the necessary specifications – including ours.

If you do need a separate ‘Telstra trench’, an early assessment can help minimise any disruption to your landscaping, driveways, etc.

03 lAY YOUR lEAD-iNThe Lead In Cable connects the Telstra network in your street to your Network Boundary Point – which is generally the first socket inside your home. Your TAC will need to arrange installation of the lead-in cable and pipe, but the cost is usually included in your Telstra connection fee. You can then get the trench backfilled.

04 WiRE UP YOUR HOMEMake sure the internal wiring to your first phone socket is installed before you start lining your internal walls. Once the walls are finished you can go ahead and arrange for your TAC to fit the socket before you get your phone service connected.

The cost of this first socket is included in your Telstra connection fee, and you can arrange installation of additional phone points with your TAC or any registered/licensed cabler. (Large buildings with multiple outlets may also need a Distributor. If so, the Distributor will be your Network Boundary Point.)

05 CAll YOUR FRiENDsWell, almost. First, we’ll need to connect your new service. Please give us at least three weeks’ advance notice of your preferred connection date, by calling 13 2200 or visiting telstra.com.au/movinghome. Remember, all your trenching, cabling, backfilling, internal wiring and socket installation needs to be completed before we can connect your phones.

CHECKlisT

The spectrum device is a trade mark of Telstra Corporation Limited, ABN 33 051 775 556.

•This is a general guide only based on a typical cable and fixed telephone installation. It does not apply to complex or unusual situations, such as relocation of lead-ins or lead-in upgrades not associated with a new service connection.

•Services on Telstra copper or cable networks are not available in all areas. Where possible, Telstra may provide your phone and broadband service on the NBN. You may not be eligible for services on our copper or cable networks if we identify that your premises has become serviceable by the NBN.

•Trenching costs on your property are not included in the Telstra connection fee. There may be additional charges that are your responsibility, which you should discuss with your contractor. It is important to discuss and clarify trenching requirements prior to digging the trench as this will avoid unnecessary rework and extra cost if the trench is provided in the wrong location or to the wrong specification.

• If the existing Telstra network is more than 500 metres from the Property Boundary entry point an additional ‘network extension’ charge may apply. Please call Telstra if you need more information.
