    Introduction

Samiti Sutra is a collection of the prayers (praarthanaa/mantra) and songs (geet) that we learn during Samiti Shikshaa Varg. The material has been provided in this form so that we may follow the prayers as

we hear and recite them, helping us to learn them ourselves. We should be familiar with all of this material by the end of Samiti

Shikshaa Varg, so that we can teach others when we return to our shakhas.

Each praarthanaa and geet has its meaning in English, as well as the text in Hindi. When singing a praarthanaa or geet it is important to

understand the meaning and also serves as a good tool to learn Hindi.

    SSV 2014

The Dalai Lama said “World peace must develop from inner peace. Peace is not just mere absence of violence. Peace is, I think, the

    manifestation of human compassion.”

The concept of peace “Shaanti” in Hindu Dharma is such that we ask for inner peace which in turn reverberate peaces in the outer world,

making it a better place for all living beings. Our actions are reflecting our thoughts. We pray to achieve peace by saying “Sarve bhavantu

sukhinah” (let all beings be happy).

The theme of SSV 2014 is “Vishwashaanti-pravartake” (meaning “Let World Peace be attained”) is part of the Vishwa Praarthanaa, which is

said in shakha. “Vishwa Shaanti” is the aim (vision) of Hindu Sevika Samiti. Our mission is Hindu Sanghathan and attending regular Shakha

is the method. Activities in shakha instil the Hindu Values which we need to practice in our daily life, thus developing our character and

personality. With this, a strong individual and a society can be created. We pray that this will be the path towards attaining World Peace.

    रत्नाकराधौतपदां हमालयकरटनीम।् ब्रह्मराजषर्रत्नाढ् या ं वन्दे भारतमातरम॥्४॥

Our salutations to Bharat Mata whose feet are washed by the waves of the Indian Ocean, who is crowned by the snowy Himalayas, whose illustrious children include distinguished sages who have attained enlightenment and led the nation.

The entire universe consists of the Supreme Lord present within nature that has existed since the beginning of time. That Almighty alone is therefore independent - without a beginning and without an end. Due to this quality, do not lust for others’ wealth. Instead, enjoy whatever is given to you by the Lord, and realise the Self by passive awareness and renunciation

That (Absolute Brahmaan that is me) is infinite. This (manifested Brahmaan that is the universe) is also infinite. From infinity comes infinity. Infinity subtracted from infinity, still leaves infinity.

    Geet 2: Ġalata Mata Kadama

Ġalata mata kadama uṪhaao Socha kara chalo, vichaara kara chalo Raaha kee museebatoṁ ko paara kara chalo, paara kara chalo ||dhru||

    ग़लत मत कदम उठाओ,

    सोच कर चलो, वचार कर चलो,

    राह क मुसीबत को पार कर चलो,

    पार कर चलो ॥ध्रु॥

Don’t take a wrong step, but instead move forward with thought and understanding. Face all the challenges in your path and conquer them.

Hama pe zimmedaariyaaṁ haiṁ dharm kee baḋee Hama na badaleṁ apanee chaala hara ghaḋee-ghaḋee | Aaga le chalo chiraaga le chalo Ye mastiyoṁ ke raṁga bhare bhaaga le chalo ||1||

The great responsibilities of our Dharma rest on us – we should not change from our path every now and then. Keep moving forward carrying the fire of patriotism, the light of Sanghathan (unity) and the energy, enthusiasm and excitement of the festival of Holi with you.

You are on a journey to your ultimate goal – why worry about the path? Does a storm have an impact on the rocks on the shore? Remove the darkness so that we can see who is approaching. Who is trying to erect a building on this beautiful creation?

Mila ke chalo eka satha aba naheeṁ ruko BaḊha ke chalo eka saatha aba naheeṁ jhuko | Saaza karegaa aavaaza karegaa Hamaaree veerataa pe jahaaṁ naaza karegaa ||3||

Let’s keep walk forward together as one – don’t stop now. Let’s quicken our pace – don’t tire now. The world will honour and applaud us. For our bravery the whole world will feel proud.

Amrut Vachan We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves. Dalai Lama To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him. Gautama Buddha Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding. Albert Einstein Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.Gautama Buddha World peace must develop from inner peace. Peace is not just mere absence of violence. Peace is, I think, the manifestation of human compassion. Dalai Lama Peace is a journey of a thousand miles and it must be taken one step at a time. Lyndon B. Johnson Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment foe the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can. Dalai Lama Hinduism is not bound up with a creed or a book, a prophet or a founder, but is persistent search for truth on the basis of a continuously renewed experience. Hinduism is human thought about God in continuous evolution. Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny. Frank Outlaw
