Happiness can never be defined. It is an emotional state of mind that gives us contentedness, satisfaction, and delight. You can be happy in

two ways – through selfishness or through selflessness. It is your choice. People, though, tend to support the positive and moral side of everything.

Selfishness, put in simple words, is being concerned about our own happiness even at the cost of others’ disappointments. It is primary concern for ourselves, without caring for the happiness of others. A selfish person will show no concern for other persons.

It is a fact that every one of us has a ‘self ’, but it depends on how well this ‘self” is watered and pruned. Being selfless is a quality that we need to cultivate in ourselves with positive habits and strong will power. It is a quality that makes us think about others before trying to be happy by ourselves. The traditional system of joint-family, despite its umpteen drawbacks, was the best stage for nurturing healthy emotions of affection, love, concern, sympathy, and empathy in the younger generations. The joy of giving and sharing can never be purchased, but it should be an instinctive gesture.

Today, the nuclear families are responsible for developing children filled with self-centred words like “I” and “me”. How much are we ready to sacrifice for the joy of others? It is high time we gave up the possessive thoughts in our minds that are binding our lives. Let younger generations experience the joy of giving, loving, sharing, and sacrificing for others, irrespective of their relationships.

How could these qualities be taught to the younger generations? Is it not time for us to stop dictating and start practicing? Our behaviour and habits are the best lessons through which we can teach our children the joy of selflessness.

Does any one of us know our life span? What do we leave behind for our next generation? The selfishness, which has made us unhappy, or the valuable lineage of selflessness? Let us be the change. Say NO to selfishness and let us enjoy a selfless and happy tomorrow.

Selfishness and happiness will never go together

MD’S MESSAGE

New Financial Year has brought many changes and challenges in our fields of operations. With an efficient management, high infrastructure facilities, and dedicated personnel, success is

guaranteed for any organisation. The continuous improvement in methods, processes, and technologies ensures that we remain amongst the best to deliver high quality products to the customers. We should be efficient to examine and analyse all the areas of work with different perspectives and make the corrections wherever required.

Our customers always expect us to exceed their expectations. When the industrial trends depict an anticipated marketing trend catching simple customer moments, we could hardly linger on with the age old traditions. We need to think differently and act differently and need to innovate and deliver value-added products and services. We need to implement astute marketing strategies which contribute towards achieving the sustainable growth of the company and customers are also benefited.

To attain success, analyse your strengths and weaknesses. Understand your weaker areas and start working on them. Work on the weakness and develop your potential, which will built your confidence and lead you to growth. Growth is often found to be a collective action resulting in more effective success. Services

industry inevitably relies on committed services which could be put into practice through the collective action of each employee of the company.

Compliance is fundamental for all business and we have been continuously improving our system from better to best. Hence proper awareness about the compliance would bring much more effective implementation of the same at all levels of the company. This invariably makes service more transparent and reliable for the recipients.

India is one of the world’s fastest growing economies, moving on to greater heights at an alarming pace. Digital India is the ultimate aim of our present government, we as a company is also accepting digitalization in almost all spheres of our work space. Since inception, our company’s mission has remained unchanged. We have created new values and provided quality service to our esteemed customers.

The future is always unpredictable and we need to expect the unexpected twined with hassles on our way. We need to boldly face the difficulties with a challenging spirit, which is the essential requisite for survival. Hence keep striving to achieve higher goals without setting any limitation to ourselves.

Thank youV George Antony

HR FACCIA

The beginning of a new financial year is a time to introspect about things to be accomplished and to contemplate the future.

Creating an engaged and motivated workforce can help make an organisation more innovative, productive, and profitable. In order to be always engaged, look out for activities that will keep you occupied throughout and will help you improve your skills. I am sure everyone is well aware of ECP (Employee Credit Point). I am happy to inform you that ECP has been made live in HRMS. I hope that all will take part in this initiative positively and win exciting prizes that are available.

Once you are engaged in the work you do, the next step is to empower yourself. How does one empower oneself? Try to follow these simple steps:

1. Make your path to advancement clear: Define your career path. Once the work allotted to you is performed with excellence, you are sure to move up the company ladder.

2. Challenge yourself: Think of alternatives to make your job interesting. Question yourself as to how you can perform your work in an efficient manner.

3. Measure the work you do: Evaluate the work you do. Ask your boss for help and discuss the areas you go wrong.

4. Get innovative: Get out of your usual work schedule and try doing your work a little differently.

You have engaged yourself and have got your destination set. All that you got to do now is align yourself to reach the destination. Let us all make a promise this financial year to take all efforts and step out of our comfort zones to face challenges positively.

Johnee Praveen R

HR Head’s Note

Engage, Empower and Align One Step at a Time

Know the concept

Anti-nepotism policy: An employer’s policy that restricts the employment of two or more family members at the same time. Bidding: The practice of posting all job openings internally so that current employees may be allowed the opportunity to apply for vacant positions prior to the employer seeking qualified candidates through external recruitment measures.Blind Ad: A job advertisement placed in a newspaper, trade journal/publication, magazine or internet job board that contains no identifying information about the employer placing the ad.

The Top 200 Secrets of Success and the Pillars of Self-Mastery

By Robin S. Sharma(Author of “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari”)

When choosing your life partner, remember that this is the most important decision of your lifetime. The marriage relationship offers 90% of all your support, happiness and fulfilment so choose it wisely. Consider qualities such as affection, sense of humour, intelligence, integrity, maturity, temperament, compatibility and that indescribable characteristic of chemistry. If these are present, your relationship stands an excellent chance of great success. Move slowly and let no one press you into an uncomfortable decision.

Never discuss your personal development activities with anyone. Your strategies for expanding your mind and spirit are your own. Others might not understand the value of personal-mastery and, further, will take away your credit when you meet with success by saying that you relied on techniques. Keep these self-development activities to yourself.

Schedule relaxation time into your week and be ruthless in protecting it. You would not schedule another activity into the time planned for an important meeting with the president of your company or your best client so why would you put off a period to invest in yourself? We must have time for ourselves to reflect, unwind and recharge our batteries. These are the renewal activities that allow us to maintain peak performance and are exceptionally valuable periods.

83% of our sensory input comes from our eyes. To truly concentrate on something, shut your eyes and you will remove much distraction.

Be the master of your will but the servant of your conscience.

Easter, also known as Resurrection Sunday, celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ after death. According to The Bible, Jesus Christ, who died on the cross of Mount Calvary, resurrected from death on the third day. The holy death symbolises the enduring promise of eternal life by Christ, who,

according to The Bible, died for the sins of mankind and resurrected on the third day and ascended to the Father in heaven.

The death of Christ by crucifixion is commemorated on Good Friday, and Easter is celebrated on the third day after Good Friday, which calls to remember the resurrection of Christ. Easter time is considered one of the most important liturgical times for Christians. The holy week culminates on Easter Sunday, a time of hope and assurance.

In India, Easter celebrations began in the pre-Independence period when the British ruled the country. The holy day is celebrated in India among Christians in great religious vigour, in the southern states of the country, especially Kerala. People exchange gifts, prepare traditional delicacies and share with neighbours and family, and attend special church services. All over the world, churches prepare special elaborate programmes on the holy day that illustrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Good Friday is observed around the world by attending special church sermons and rituals. Some Christians consider Good Friday as bad because Jesus Christ was crucified one the day. Some believe that the “good” represents the gift of eternal salvation that Christ brought for the people of earth through His death and resurrection. Good Friday is also observed as the end of the Lent season, an important observance in the lives of Christians. During this season, a span of 40 days, people observe fasting, abstinence, and penitence in commemoration of Christ’s fasting in the wilderness.

Easter Sunday, the day of hope and assurance, is celebrated with great religious sentiments. The holy day honours and remembers the eternal hope of humanity’s path to glory and salvation. If Christ had not resurrected, He would have been considered just as another teacher or rabbi.

The purest meaning of Easter is the celebration of the resurrection or ascension of Christ to heaven, which is the foundation of Christianity. Easter Sunday reminds all Christians of their heavenly calling and of the open door for relationship with God through Jesus, His Son.

Today, the meaning of Easter, for millions of Christians, is that of honouring and recognizing Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead, and His glorious promises of eternal life for all who believe in Him.

BUSINESS NEWS

Remittance by Kerala NRIs Increase by 42 per cent in2013-14Deposits by Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in Kerala witnessed a growth of about 42 per cent in 2013-14 according to the state government. The NRI deposits now account for more than a third of the total deposits in Kerala’s commercial banking system. About 90 per cent of the state’s 2.3 million diaspora is in the Middle East. The Kerala Migration Survey 2014 published recently reveals that the United Arab Emirates

(UAE) attracted 37.5 per cent of the Kerala emigrants and retains its top position; Saudi Arabia stands second with 21.8 per cent and Oman stands third with 7.9 per cent of the Kerala emigrants. Recently, the Indian government also revealed that the country has received $34.9 billion in

remittances in the first six months of 2014-15 and is likely to surpass the previous year’s $69.6 billion by the end of the current fiscal.

Facebook Restricts 5832 Pieces of Content from Indian UsersIt is quite alarming the amount of content that Facebook has restricted from Indian users. According to the Transparency report released by Facebook for the 2nd half of 2014, India leads the content restriction done for any country, that too by a fair margin. Facebook removed 5,832 pieces of content posted by Indian users. In comparison, United States had none, United Kingdom had 3, Germany had 60, and France had 13 pieces of content removed. In the first half of 2014, a total 4,960 pieces of contents were restricted, which increased to 5,832 in the second half of 2014. According to Facebook, they restrict access to content which is reported primarily by law enforcement agencies and the India Computer Emergency Response Team within the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology including anti-religious content and hate speech that could cause unrest and disharmony.

Facebook Introduces Payments in MessengerFacebook has introduced a new feature in its Messenger that allows users to send money to each other. Users of Messenger can link their debit cards to the service and use it to message money to one another just as easily as they send a snapshot or text. The introduction of its payments feature is likely to cause tremors in the nascent market for instantly sending money to individuals, known as peer-to-peer payments. With its service, Facebook wanted to simplify the process of sending money as much as possible. To reduce the risk of unauthorised transactions, users must enter a PIN or use Apple’s fingerprint identification system before they can send the money. By using debit cards to handle the transfer, the money can move fairly quickly between the two bank accounts while allowing Facebook to offer the service free to users.

Weak Euro to Leave More Money in the Hands of UAE ResidentsA weaker Euro near its lowest level in twelve years could have a dampening impact on inflation in the United Arab Emirates as food items imported from the Eurozone get cheaper, leaving more disposable income in the hands of consumers. Food inflation contributes to a large extent in the UAE inflation index, which has been rising mainly due to housing expenditure and miscellaneous goods and services, and could be offset by falling prices of fruits, vegetables, and others items that come from Europe. Due to a trillion dollar quantitative easing announced by the European Central Bank, cheap credit to companies in the Eurozone could boost expenditure, revive investments, thereby boosting the GDP, fuelling reverse carry trade in the economy by investors in search of yields. European companies enjoy a low interest rate environment, which enables them to refinance their obligations. A weaker euro has been helpful in making European exports attractive, and a lower oil price is expected to benefit the consumer.

RH’S REPORT

I started my journey with UAE Exchange India from Ratnagiri branch as an assistant manager, where I had joined on 13th November 2008, on the day of Sri Gurunanak Jayanti. Before joining UAE

Exchange, I worked with Axis Bank. I headed Ratnagiri branch for about four years. With wonderful support and the positive attitude of my team, the branch could always hold a top position in the region. With outstanding customer service, the branch has always been showing growth in all the verticals of their work. The loyalty and the commitment of the team members always encouraged me to look for new challenges. We could initiate many new ventures at branch level to retain our performance, which has helped the branch remain in the top position.

Two years ago, on 1st November 2012, the management of UAE Exchange India gave me a new assignment - to take charge of Goa region, which is spread in two different states. The region was in the last position at that time, and it was incurring huge loss for the company during the financial year 2012-13. Initially, our aim was to boost up our teams and to bring up the region from the deep pit of loss. High staff attrition rate and low per-employee contribution were the major challenges we faced at the initial stage. We recruited new people and gave them effective training to improve the productivity of the region. We appealed our colleagues to improve their contribution to the region. All our branch heads and their teams responded to our call and turned around in a very

Mileswe reached,miles yet to go…

positive manner. All negative vibrations started vanishing gradually; a changed approach and improved view could be seen among all the branches of the region. By the end of the financial year 2013-14, our region started contributing revenue to the company with a remarkable surplus growth. The new financial year 2014-15 came, and we started with remarkably higher figures. We covered our yearly surplus target in the third quarter itself.

When looking back at my journey with UAE Exchange, I feel very happy as I could learn and do many new things. During my career, I could implement my ideas; I had complete freedom from my superiors and tremendous support from my colleagues. I will always be thankful to our MD Mr. George Antony for trusting and giving me a chance to hold this position as the regional head of Goa. Our Zonal Head Mr. Aravind has always stood firm behind us and has encouraged us to walk on the path of ascension. During this journey, all departments of the company have supported us. It was because of their help and cooperation that we could achieve what we wanted to. We know that this is not the end. Our destination is still far away. We are far away from the crest, but we are sure that we will be reaching there soon.

Internet, a word known to all, is in the limelight for the last couple of decades. It has become a part of life in such deeper meaning that the society tends to call a person illiterate if he or she doesn’t

know how to use internet. The main usage of internet are in the fields of communication, research, education, financial transaction, real time updates, news, leisure, e-commerce, weblog, and career.

We are always connected to the internet, may be through our mobile phones or through our branch network. But are we using

the internet in the right way? There are several laws that we must abide to, and moreover, a little care can do wonders in experiencing the internet. Laws apart, here are some things that you can observe to make sure that you are using internet to the maximum.

Use internet as reference material: The internet is a source of tonnes of data and processed information. You can use internet for reference. Use it as a library at your disposal and it can be your virtual (or actual) University. Please don’t copy any material from the internet without giving due credit. Taking someone else’s work and claiming it to be yours is called plagiarism, which may land you in trouble.

Use internet to meet others: Internet reduces the gap between nations and continents. You can freely get in touch with people of different countries and share knowledge and culture. Though emails, blogs, chat, forums, VoIP services, and the trending WhatsApp, communication can happen instantly and effectively over the Internet.

Respect others’ privacy: Just as you expect yours, make sure that the privacy of others is also respected. Give respect and take respect.

Trust a site: Learn to evaluate a site for accuracy and validity. Many sites are designed solely to sell.

Share: Share your financial and credit information to secure and trusted sites only. Keep a record of online transactions and check your bank account regularly.

Position: Keep your computer in a public place in your home and monitor the traffic, especially if you have children in your house.

Unsecured connection: It is always nice to get something free. But, always make sure that you are not accessing your bank account or doing any e-commerce transaction over a free and public WiFi.

Keep your machine ready: Make sure you have a firewall, an anti-virus, in your computer/laptop. Do not install software that you are not sure of. Do not choose the option “Remember Password” whenever prompted. Always update your browser to the latest version available. Update your anti-virus and lock your computer when not in use.

Email: Emails are to be opened with caution, especially when there is an attachment. Do not click on any links or attachment sent from an unknown person without verifying.

Passphrase/password: Open sesame! And no password is that difficult to crack. Wherever possible, make sure to include special characters and different cases in your passwords. Try to change it often. Do not share any of your passwords with others. Just imagine someone doing a transaction, violating mandates, or sending spurious email from your account. Note that this is not a comprehensive list, but a basic one that you can adhere to.

MY SCRIBBLES

Happy New Financial YearA company gets its edge from the attitude of its people– its leaders, its supervisors, and front-line, back-office, entry-level, and long-term employees.

If employees are always made to feel valued and appreciated, there are more chances of them being more engaged in their works and would want to stay with the organisation. Higher the engagement levels, higher the attitude barometers of them rise. Due to this, results-orientation improves at workplace.

Success is basically attained through good attitude, rather than technical achievement. A supervisor, who demonstrates and knows how to build positive attitudes, can lead a departmental workforce to success. Even an average level of experience and skills is required to achieve high productivity and produce successful performance. This is called teamwork, and it happens often!

Attitude is the way we think about something or someone. Our attitude is something other people can actually see. They can hear it in our voice, see it in the way we move, and feel it when they are with us. Our attitude expresses itself in everything we do, all the time, wherever we are. Attitude makes a difference in every hour, everyday, in everything that we do for our entire lives. Our attitude towards our work will equal the result we get from it. Anything that we do with positive attitude will bring us results. Let go of things that are not in our control. We can develop a positive attitude by emphasising the good, by being tough minded, and by refusing defeat.

Let us be good to ourselves. Enjoy the ride and make a positive impact on our career and workplace with a positive attitude.

Sometimes, words may fall short when we try to bid someone a heartfelt goodbye. What would be the many feelings that would rush to our minds when we try to

wish safe journey to someone who is very close to our hearts? And what words would we choose to bid bon voyage to that person who had been showing us light throughout our journey? At this point, we may see the complexity and the paradox of life. Here, we may fail to accumulate the perfect words to describe the valuable contributions and interventions of this person.

Our Sunish sir, who had been serving our company as the regional head of Kannur for the past 9 years, is all set to take off his career to the next level. He has always considered himself a beginner and has taken earnest efforts to add up his knowledge. His intense interest in academics is indeed a motivation. He believes that learning is not something than ends when one’s job begins, but something that begins when the job begins. The success of a professional person depends on how that person connects with the society and the surroundings. Our Sunish sir used to find time to get connected with the public by actively participating in social organisations such as Lions Club.

The positive energy in him is like soothing breeze that awakens the courage in us to face any challenge that we may encounter on our way. Describing his talents and contributions is surely a challenge for me as I have to limit them to the tiny canvas of an A4 sized paper. But feelings need no words. We all gathered at the doorstep of Kannur region to wish him bon voyage. As we bid him farewell, we could feel the words stuck in our throat, our eyes filled with tears... But, even in silence, I could still hear the deepest whisperings in the hearts of all... “Thank you sir”.

Days just passed byLike leaves withering from treesStill, the fiery thought of death haunted himAnd made him restless with horrible hal-lucinations

A hare and a tortoise live in Kochi. They are good friends and like all good friends, make fun of each other sometimes. One day, in a light mood, the hare ridiculed the tortoise for his slow pace. The tortoise reacted by

challenging the hare for a race from MG Road to Edapally. On the appointed date and time, the two assembled at the starting line. The hare dashed off the starting line in a flash. After the midway mark, he felt that a small nap would do no harm. The short nap became a long one. Meanwhile, the tortoise crossed the hare and reached the destination. The hare woke up from his sleep and dashed off towards the finish. To his dismay, he found the tortoise taking a nap at the finishing line. Moral of the story - Slow and steady wins the race.

The story continues... The hare went home and soon realised that complacency and overconfidence were reasons for his defeat. He decided not to repeat the mistake again. He then invited the tortoise for another race. On the appointed day and time, they met at the starting point. This time, the hare dashed off to finishing line without a break and won comfortably. Moral of the story - Fast and steady wins the race.

The story continues... The tortoise went home and thought hard. He realised that the hare cannot be defeated in speed. He then pondered over his core competence. The tortoise found a solution and invited the hare to another race. This time, the route got changed. It became from MG Road to Aluva through the Periyar river (not using the overbridge). The hare agreed. At the appointed date and time, the race began. The hare dashed off like a flash. Soon, he arrived on the banks of the Periyar river. He was overwhelmed by a sense of dejection as he did not know to swim. The tortoise came to the bank, after sometime, looked at the hare with sympathy, and coolly got into the water. He swam to the other side and reached Aluva. Moral of the story - Do not underestimate your competitors. Core competence wins the race.

The story continues... Both friends decided it was enough of racing against each other. They engaged in a brainstorming session to find a way to reach Aluva from MG Road in the least possible time. They met on the appointed date and time. The tortoise sat on the back of the hare. The hare dashed off from MG Road to the banks of Periyar river. There, the hare got on the back of the tortoise and they swiftly crossed the river. On reaching the other side, the tortoise again sat on the back of the hare. The hare ran quickly to Aluva and reached the finishing point. Moral of the story - Innovation and team work wins the race.

WOMEN’S CORNER

India’s bleeding daughter had been sabotaged several times, stabbing her with abusing words. She is considered as a puppet that should act according to men’s wish.

Eight of March is celebrated every year as International women’s Day. Just a celebration. In spite all these formal recognitions and honours, women are being harassed in various sectors of the society.

The life of a girl goes through various stages in life – from daughter to sister to wife to mother – caring and nurturing everyone around her. Take a moment to absorb the reality and think. Who really cares about the value of women in each stage of her life? The only features of women that attract the eyes of the world are her flesh and blood. Her physical beauty, rather than her purity in character, that embodies sexual appeal, is the only thing that strikes a man’s staring eyes. Scavengers fly over her with blooded canine teeth and piercing nails to eat her, spreading darkness and polluting her innocence. How much respect is given to women in our sovereign, democratic, republic, and secular nation?

You can be proud when your nation attains heights for great inventions and ideologies. A few days back, an Indian student was denied internship for biochemistry in Germany. What was the

reason? He was an Indian, the land of women abusers. Realize that this is how our Bharat Matha is portrayed or perceived by the external world. India is known for its legacy in bringing up its children feeding them with the lessons of moral values. Indians have hidden away those lessons, and are now on the wrong path.

Stabbing India’s bleeding daughter severely with abusive words about her blood is more than hurting Bharat Matha. Blaming western culture and modernization is not a solution to change the drastic situations in India. Thousands of women are being abused mentally and physically, throwing their lives into darkness. Think for a moment. She is your mother, sister, wife, and daughter. Try to respect every woman.

SPECIAL DAYS

Fooling around, playing jokes on others and screaming “April fool” on the victims of your pranks and hoaxes are sure routines on April 1st of every year. April Fools’ Day,

also called All Fools’ Day, is celebrated every year on April 1st as a day when people play practical jokes and hoaxes on others, who are called “April fools”. There are several stories regarding the day’s origin.

One of the most popular beliefs about the origin of April Fools’ Day is attributed to the French calendar reform of the sixteenth century. According to this theory, France had their calendar reformed in the sixteenth century, moving the starting of a year from April to January. Traditionalists, who clung to the old calendar system, and others who failed to keep up with the change continued celebrating New Year Day on the 1st day of April, as it was done earlier. These people were subsequently called April fools.

According to another popular belief, April Fools’ Day is associated with renewal festivals that mark the beginning of a year to celebrate the return of spring. During such festivals, the social order is temporarily inverted and restored the very next day. Since April Fools’ Day has all the characteristics of a renewal festival, many historians have theorized that this day evolved out of renewal festivals. Some scholars have located the origin of April Fools’ Day in Biblical traditions. The phrase “sending a man from Pilate to Herod”, an old term for sending someone on a fool’s errand, was taken from The Bible.

April Fool’sDay

Some of the historical April Fools’ Day pranks of all time

Big Ben to Go Digital: The BBC, in 1980, reported that Big Ben in London, in order to keep up with the times, was going to be given a digital readout. The announcement so much shocked listeners that many were angry about the change because the Big Ben was part of the country’s culture and tradition. The same news report also claimed that the clock hands would be given away to the first four listeners to contact the station. One Japanese seaman in the mid-Atlantic was reported to have immediately radioed in, hoping to be among the lucky callers.

The Floating Prank: In 1976, English astronomer Patrick Moore announced on BBC Radio that a certain phenomenon effect would cause a short-term reduction in gravity on Earth. He named the phenomenon “Jovian–Plutonian gravitational effect” in which a conjunction of Jupiter and Pluto would cause the Earth’s gravitational force to reduce for a short period of time. BBC got surprising responses from many people reporting to have observed the effect. One woman was reported to have stated that she and her friends floated around the room during the phenomenon.

Smell-O-Vision: Smell-O-Vision, a technique created by Hans Laube, was a system than released smell during the projection of a film so that the viewer could “smell” what was happening in the movie. In 1965, BBC TV aired a fake interview with a man who had invented a new technology called “Smellovision” that allowed viewers at home to experience aromas produced in the television studio. To demonstrate, the man chopped some onions and brewed a pot of coffee. Viewers called in to confirm that they had smelled the aromas that were “transmitted” through their television sets.

The Great Spaghetti Harvest: In yet another historic April Fools’ Prank, BBC aired a spoof documentary about spaghetti harvest in Switzerland. The programme, called “Panorama”, featured a family from Ticino in Switzerland carrying out their annual spaghetti harvest. It showed women carefully plucking strands of spaghetti from a tree and laying them in the sun to dry. Some viewers were so fascinated they called BBC to know where they could purchase their very own spaghetti bush.

SPECIAL DAYS

World Autism Awareness Day is observed on 2nd April every year. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly resolution December 2007. Autism is a mental

condition, present from early childhood, characterised by great difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts. According to the resolution, all UN organisations, member states, NGOs, and all private and public organisations would participate in the observance of the day to raise awareness of autism on all levels in society. UN has highlighted the need to help and improve the quality of life of autistic children and adults through various voluntary programmes and donations. Autism Ontario, a volunteer network of Chapters throughout the province of Ontario, celebrates the day “Raising a Flag” for autism. Various organisations around the world participate in the day by conducting fundraising for the welfare of autistic children of the locality and organising awareness-raising events.

The World Heritage Day is observed on the 18th April every year for spreading awareness on protecting and preserving the valuable assets of heritage. This special day offers an opportunity to raise the public’s

awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage and the efforts that are required to protect and conserve it, as well as draw attention to its vulnerability. The first world Heritage Day was celebrated in 1982 by the International Council of Monuments and Sites in Tunisia and was approved in 1983 by United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation. The day marked the necessity of protecting the historical monuments and sites located in every part of the world by making collective efforts at international level.

“I appeal to all people everywhere to raise their voices. Speak out on behalf of this planet, our only home. Let us care for Mother Earth so she can continue to care for us as she has done for millennia.” – Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General, United

Nations

World Earth Day is observed on 22nd April every year to create in all the interest to gather national support for environmental issues. Millions of people participate in the observance of the day with a noble cause. The most common practice as part of celebrating World Earth Day is planting trees saplings. The day reminds everyone that the Earth and its ecosystems are vital factors for life and sustenance. It also recognises a collective responsibility to promote harmony with nature and the Earth to achieve a just balance among the economic, social, and environmental needs of present and future generations of humanity. It is a fine opportunity to raise public awareness around the world to the challenges regarding the well-being of the planet and all the life it supports. The theme for 2015 World Earth Day is “It’s our turn to lead”.
