Duties and Responsibilities:

As NURSE III

A. Supervision of Patient Care1. Directs the planning of the total nursing care for all patients confines in the unit,2. Supervises, directs and evaluates the total implementation of nursing care plans,3. Coordinates all services concerned with the total care of patients,4. Supervises personnel-patient and family relationships,5. Reviews and analyses trends pertinent to delivery of nursing care process within the

unit and initiates appropriate innovations,6. Does direct nursing care.

B. Personal Management1. Directs and supervises planning and implementation of work plans in the unit,2. Directs and supervises the evaluation of personnel performance including guidance

and counselling,3. Plans programs, implements and evaluates in-service activities for staff

development,4. Coordinates with the Department of Nursing specifically the Division of nursing

Education and Training in the learning activities of the staff,5. Directs activities that promote motivation and good interpersonal relation among staff

in the unit.

Provides information and teaches the patient and his family about the diabetes disease process, complications, management and care with emphasis on controlling blood glucose levels, lifestyle modification, proper diet and foot care,

Performs blood glucose monitoring, administers anti-diabetes medication and insulin therapy as directed by the physician,

Performs foot assessment and assesses for vascular insufficiencies using a Doppler machine,

Answers DM education referrals coursed through the diabetes clinic for both in and out patients,

Acts as preceptor in training nurses undergoing the diabetes nurse educator certification program.

Internal Medicine: Patient confined with Cardio-pulmonary, renal, endocrine, infectious disease including cancer patients and those with multi-organ failure and those on haemodialysis.

Ophthalmology: Patients who underwent lens extraction, cryo-surgery, trabeculectomy, pars-plana vitrectomy.

Otorhinolaryngology: Patients who underwent thyroidectomy, palatoplasty, mandibulectomy, radical mastoidectomy, parotidectomy, foreign body extraction, esophagoscopy, tracheostomy, laryngoscopy, wide excision.

Neurosurgery: Patients who underwent craniotomy, craniectomy, evacuation of subdural/epidural hematoma, VP shunting, tube ventriculostomy, transphenoidal excision of tumours.

General Surgery: Patients who underwent cholecystectomy, mastectomy, gastrectomy, appendectomy, herniorraphy, exploratory laparotomy, colostomy, ileostomy, mass excision.

Trauma Surgery: Patients who underwent chest tube thoracostomy.

Uro-surgery: Patients who underwent cystoscopy, TURP, TURBT, RGP, nephrectomy, pelveolithotomy.

Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery: Patients who underwent coronary artery bypass graft, pericardiectomy, pericardiostomy.
