The Virgin script is one of the most recognised and iconic logos in the world. That’s why if we fiddle with the script, it stops looking like part of the Virgin family. Give it and our logo the respect they deserve and stick to the not-up-for-debate rules around how they are used.

Virgin and the Virgin script are registered trade marks of Virgin Enterprises Limited (VEL) and are used under license. The script must always be used as part of the Virgin Money mark and never alone, and all variations of our logo must have the prior approval of VEL. 

Any proposed new or revised mark or brand incorporating the Virgin Money logo or name must first be approved by the Brand Director who will ensure it is permitted under the Virgin Money trademark licence (liaising with the Virgin Money Legal team as required).

We have a few variants on our logos, but our preference is to use the full colour version in print and 2 colour version in digital work.

When it comes to colour, white on Virgin Red is definitely our favourite combination (no surprises there) – but depending on the background colour of your communication, positive and black logotypes are also available.

If you need to place our logo on a background other than red or white, these can be agreed on a case-by-case basis with the Brand or Studio teams. Our preference is to use the full colour logo in print (where practical) and single colour logo in digital. If in doubt, contact the Brand or Studio teams.

Clear zonesAvoid placing text or any other graphic elements near the logo. The minimum amount of room to leave around the logo is indicated by the clear zone. The dimensions shown are based on the x-height of the logotype.

Minimum sizeNever reproduce the logo less than 20mm wide.

Maintaining the logo integrityFor most jobs most of the time, the logo will be a composite unit of the roundel and ‘money’

If ever you need to ‘construct’ a logo, i.e. for physical signage, please ensure the correct distance is always maintained between the roundel and ‘money’, using the formula below:

z = 12.4% of y or z = y times 0.0124

Also ensure the relationship of the roundel size to the x-height of the type is always maintained using the following formula:

Displaying our logo – the tab

The tab is our holding device for our logo. It provides a flexible system to display the Virgin Money logo on light and dark backgrounds.

Just like the print version, we have a holding device for our logo in digital too. It won’t always be needed, but can be used when the logo needs something to hold it on light and dark backgrounds.

The tab gradation

To make the tab as striking as possible, we use a gradation. This will be applied in the majority of cases as part of our identity, but we keep it simple and just solid red on the digital tab.

Tab positioning

The logo can be placed in the centre at the top or bottom. This allows for our most aesthetically pleasing, centered layouts. Alternatively, we can have left-aligneed layouts with the logo positioned top or bottom left. For maximum tab size, see page XX.

Although it’s important for the logo to stand out, it also needs to feel naturally sized for each application. Consistent logo sizes must be used across all communications.
