December 30, 1904 – February 14, 1987
Moved to Moscow in 1918 with his family
Attended the Scriabin Musical Institute in Moscow
He took piano and general music lessons
Inspiration
Developed the Union of Soviet Composers
Composed music that reflected political and social aspects, such as the revolution
Dedicated his pieces to the Soviet youth
Composed music for young children
Wrote lively and energetic melodies for joyful children to play
Third Symphony was composed on the 10th
anniversary of Lenin’s death. Titled, “Requiem”
Music Education
Formed his own educational system for children
This system was funded by the Soviet government
Taught in many Soviet public schools
Taught children to listen to Soviet marches, parades, and political demonstrations
Children learned to represent their country through music
Sergey Prokofyev, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Aram
Khachaturyan

First performed by 18 year old, Igor Bezrodny in 1948
This piece was for advanced players who were still young
