Notable plays and musicals include Nicky Silver’s THE LYONS, the Tony Award-winning AVENUE Q, Kander and Ebb’s THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, Bowen and Bell’s [title of show], Tarell Alvin McCraney’s WIG OUT!, Becky Mode’s FULLY COMMITTED, Christopher Shinn’s WHERE DO WE LIVE, Jenny Schwartz’ GOD'S EAR, Gina Gionfriddo’s AFTER ASHLEY, Colman Domingo’s A BOY AND HIS SOUL, Will Eno’s MIDDLETOWN, and two Pulitzer Prize-winning dramas, Paula Vogel’s HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE and Edward Albee’s THREE TALL WOMEN. Our community includes some of the most exciting theatre artists working today — some at the beginning of their careers, many returning to work with us again, and all engaged in creating compelling new work to share with you.

BILLY & RAY, a whip-smart new comedy charting the birth of the film noir genre, follows literary odd couple writer-director Billy Wilder and novelist Raymond Chandler as they collaborate to adapt Double Indemnity for the silver screen. Set in 1940’s Hollywood, BILLY & RAY is the true story of how two brilliant and thorny artists narrowly evaded strict Hollywood censors and all out interpersonal warfare in the process of creating a groundbreaking film. Directed by legendary director-producer-actor Garry Marshall (Pretty Woman, Beaches).

This electrifying world-premiere musical helmed by director Michael Mayer (HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, SPRING AWAKENING), with music and lyrics by Peter Lerman (winner of the Jonathan Larson Award), book by Peter Lerman and Michael Mayer, and choreography by Steven Hoggett (ONCE, AMERICAN IDIOT) will be a must-see theatrical event. In BROOKLYNITE, Trey Swieskowski is an idealistic hardware store clerk who dreams of becoming a superhero. Astrolass, Brooklyn’s most celebrated superhero, is determined to throw in the cape and live like a normal Brooklynite. When they meet they hatch a plan that will change their lives forever. But can they save Brooklyn when it suddenly teeters on the brink of disaster? BROOKLYNITE is inspired by the real Brooklyn Superhero Supply Company located in Park Slope, with characters created by Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman.

Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, critically acclaimed playwright of APPROPRIATE and winner of The Vineyard’s Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, makes his Vineyard mainstage debut with GLORIA. This funny, trenchant and powerful new play follows an ambitious group of editorial assistants at a notorious Manhattan magazine, each of whom hopes for a starry life of letters and a book deal before they turn thirty. But when an ordinary humdrum workday becomes anything but, the stakes for who will get to tell their own story become higher than ever. Developed at The Vineyard during Branden’s residency, GLORIA is directed by Evan Cabnet (OUTSIDE PEOPLE).
