The market 2012 Facts and figures

Size and population

• Iceland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe with an average about three inhabitants per square km

• Almost four-fifths of the country is uninhabited and mostly uninhabitable, the population being concentrated in a narrow coastal belt, valleys and the southwest corner of the country

• In December 2012 Iceland's population totaled 321,857 people of which around 206.000 lived in the Reykjavik, and surrounding areas

• Iceland is 103,000 km2 or 2,4 times the size of Denmark and the population is little less than in Aarhus. Iceland is also ¼ of the size of Sweden, the population is almost the same as in Malmö

Market size

• Turn over of Hair Salons & Booth renters is little over 4,2 billion IKR or same as 232m SEK, 197m DKK and 26 million Euro. As there is no organization of Distributors of Salon products, as for example in Denmark and Sweden

• There are 317 registered VAT Hair salons (136 doors) and Booth Renters (181). Total turnover in 2012 was ISK 4,230,889,609 or the average of 13,346,655 per month and there for 1,112,221 per unit

• If 10% of the turnover goes towards products the market size (Wholesale prices) could now be 423m IKr, 19,7m DKK, 23,2m SEK and 2,77m Euro
