SEMINAR ON
INTRODUCTIONIn the present scenario management and distribution of water has become centralized.
People depend on government system, which has resulted in disruption of community participation in water management and collapse of traditional water harvesting system.
Living creatures of the universe are made of five basic elements, viz., Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Sky, Obviously, water is one of the most important elements and no creature can survive without it. Rain water harvesting helps to overcome water scarcity
Rain water harvesting is the ultimate answer
Rain water harvesting is a technique used for collecting storing and using rainwater for garden, livestock, irrigation and drinking purposes.
It is the process of accumulation and deposition of rainwater for reuse before it reaches aquifer.
The rain water is collected from various hard surfaces such as roof tops and other types of manmade structures above ground hard surfaces.
The water collected is just redirected to a deep pit with percolation and can be used for various purposes. Ground water resource gets naturally recharged through percolation.
WHAT IS RAIN WATER HARVESTING????
IMAGES
To arrest ground water decline and augment ground water table.
To beneficiate water quality in aquifers .
To conserve surface water runoff during monsoon
To reduce soil erosion .
To inculcate a culture of water conservation .
Why harvest the rain water??
Broadly there are two ways of harvesting rainwater: (i) Surface runoff harvesting. (ii) Roof top rainwater harvesting.
How to harvest rain water?
It is a system of catching rainwater where it falls. In rooftop harvesting, the roof becomes the catchments, and the rainwater is collected from the roof of the house/building.
ROOF TOP RAINWATER HARVESTING (RTRWH):-
METHOD OF ROOF TOP RAIN WATER HARVESTING
Storage or Direct use.
RECHARGING GROUND WATER AQUIFERS
COMPONENT OF RAIN WATER HARVESTING

APPLICATIONa) Recharging of bore wells b) Recharging of dug wells.
c) Recharge pits d) Soak ways or Recharge Shafts e) Percolation Tanks
CONCLUSION It is very beneficial to maintain the proper level of water for future and also increase the level of ground water table.
it helps to the economic development of our country.
In densely populated countries like india, the demand for water goes on increasing with increase in population.
This proves to be majour problem in our exploring new source of water.
Rainwater naturally and freely available source can be properly utilized by means of water harvesting and recharging.
Hence RAIN WATER HARVESTING is the ultimate solution for increasing the ground water table.
