PRL celebrated Vikram Jayanti on 12

thAugust 2010 by having Tree-plantation ceremony

and Lectures by five distinguished scientists who were bestowed upon the Hari Om

Ashram Prerit Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Research Awards and PRL Award for the year 2009 for

their innovative scientific research in various fields.

The functions were graced by the presence of Smt. Mrinalini Sarabhai and

Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman, ISRO/Secretary, Department of Space, who also gave

away the awards in the presence of distinguished guests and staff members of Physical

Research Laboratory and Space Applications Centre.

The Hari Om Ashram Prerit Dr. Vikram Sarabhai award in the field ofSpace Sciences, was

given to Prof. Jayaram Chengalur from National Centre for Radio Astrophysics, Pune, for

his significant contributions in Radio Astrophysics using the Giant Metrewave Radio

Telescope.

Dr. Prakash Chauhan from Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, received the award in

the field ofSpace Applications for his original contributions towards the development of

algorithms for oceanographic applications using space-borne data.

In the field of Telematics and Automation, the award is given jointly to Prof. Abhay

Karandikar from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, for his important

contributions for 4G Wireless Technology and to Prof. K. Sridharan from the Indian

Institute of Technology, Chennai, for his significant contributions in Computational aspects

related to Robotics.

The recipient of the PRL Award is Dr. A.K. Patra from the National Atmospheric Research

Laboratory, Gadanki (Andhra Pradesh) for his original contributions towards atmospheric

dynamics and understanding of the coupling between various atmospheric layers.

A section of the gathering at the K. R. Ramanathan AuditoriumEach Award carries a Medal and a Cash Prize of Rs.50,000/-. The Vikram Sarabhai Research

Awards were instituted from funds provided by Pujya Shri Mota of Hari Om Ashram,

Nadiad, and the PRL Award from the Aruna Lal Endowment Fund established by Prof.

Devendra Lal, Honorary Fellow and former Director of PRL.
