In Literacy, we have been working on 4

square writing outlines. These have helped

us organize our ideas and add more detail

to our writing.

In Math, grade 4 has been working on mul-

tiplication strategies and will be moving on

to patterns.

Mrs. Hooper

Kindergarten

In Math class, students have been working in centers, prac-ticing their number sense, patterns, and shapes. We can subitize up to 5, find the core in patterns, and are learning about 3D shapes.

In Literacy, students have been working on their recognition of letters, practicing their sounds, and sounding out words.

Keep up the great work!

GRADE 5

Le français à l’intermédiaire

Bonjour à tous,

Some Middle School students received Vi-

king Vouchers because of their effort in

French class. It makes me happy when

students come to me and asks or says

something in French without me expect-

ing it, bon travail!

We are working away on our units and

learning vocabulary related to Fall & Hal-

loween. Some students were very creative

with their “maison hantée”.

Bonne semaine,

Mme Chute

Gr.6 LA: The Grade 6 students have been continu-

ing to work on report writing. They are working on fin-

ishing up their Remembrance Day writing, which some

will be reading at our Remembrance Day ceremony.

We will be starting our Narrative writing unit once our

that scholastic book orders go out every month. You

can order online under our class or send in the order

with your child.

Theme of the month: Respect

Grade 9

On Tuesday November 14th the Grade 9 students will be participating in Take Your Kid to Work Day. Take Your Kid to Work Day has been an annual career exploration event since 1994. Grade 9’s from across the Country will spend the day at the workplace of a parent, relative, friend or volunteer host.

Events such as these help students make informed post-secondary choices and the reflection following events such as these provide students with peer-to-peer perspectives, tips and advice from their class-

mates and from young people who have recently made the school-to=-work transition.

Grade 9’s need to return their Consent forms to Ms. Lee or Miss Kierstead

English Language Arts 11/12

We have completed our Lord

of the Flies Novel Study and

are preparing for our unit assessment. Some

themes that we studied in relation to the alle-

gorical novel have been: Loss of Innocence; Citi-

zenship and Savagery; The darkness of human-

kind; Democracy and Authoritarianism. Great

Job grade 11 and 12! :)

Guidance

This past month we have had

recruiters come from the

University of New Brunswick

and the University of Maine at Machias to

speak with our grade 12 students and give

them the information they need in order to

make the best choices regarding post-

secondary studies. We also attended the

Post-Secondary Expo at St. Stephen High

School where the 11’s and 12’s were able

to discuss their plans with recruiters

from Post-Secondary institutions from

across the country and beyond. As Ca-

reer Month continues we are having

Stephen MacKnight from the Work

Room in St. Stephen attend our grade 11

English Classes and our Grade 9/10

PDCP classes to discuss the PACE pro-

gram, labour market information and the

6 destinations we can choose after high

school.

What an excit-

ing time to be in

High School at

Campobello Is-

land Consolidat-

ed School and

being able to make some informed deci-

sions regarding our post-secondary choic-

es!

From the World of Mathematics

Math 9 students are currently working on finding the surface area

of composite objects. They will be exploring ways to create com-

posite objects that will produce the greatest surface area.

Those in GMF 10 are learning about finances! What banks to

choose, what accounts are the best deal….some good real life

math. We are now looking at simple and compound interest and

exploring which will provide the best results.

Students in Foundations 11 are part way through the quadratics

unit and currently exploring when objects thrown up will reach a

certain height and how long they will be in the air.

Pre Calc 12 A students are solving Logarithms. We

are glad to have fellow classmate, Amy Case, back

from her trip with Encounters Canada. Class has

not been the same without her but we were glad

she had this opportunity.

Wait what?

The 2018 Sr. Girls Soccer season came to an end at Regionals with a hard fought loss to Hartland. The girls had a great season and demonstrated determination, perseverance and leadership in the face of challenging games.

Our Senior Girls Vikings finished 2nd overall in the Southern Single A league play and were the first team to represent the Campobello Vikings at Regionals for Sr. Girls Soccer.

Special thanks goes out to the senior girls who are graduating this year. Thank you for your years of dedication and mentorship. Awesome Season girls! You should be very proud of your efforts!
