Monies Owed
Contact: J. Tucci (833-3300 ext. 3326)
During the week of March 28th, juniors and seniors who owe money to the school will be given a monies owed memo. This memo will tell the students the amount that is owed. Students may pay with cash or check (made out to FWBHS) to Mrs. Lemasters in the guidance office. Please remember that students will not be able to receive/purchase prom tickets until their balance is paid.
If you have any questions concerning the monies owed please contact Assistant Principal Tucci at the above number.
Redesigned SAT scores and Bright Futures
Contact: P. Hernandez (Office of Student Financial Assistance – 850-
245-1821)
OSFA staff had the opportunity to meet with College Board representatives and Board of Governor personnel last week to discuss scoring of the new redesigned SAT (first administered March 2016) for Bright Futures and SUS evaluations. The College Board informed us that the scores from the Redesigned SAT are vastly different from the old SAT and must be treated as if it is a separate entrance exam. Similar to how OSFA cannot combine scores across the SAT and the ACT, OSFA will NOT be able to take the best scores across the old SAT and the new Redesigned SAT. ***Please know that Bright Futures will not “super score” between the old SAT and the new SAT. They will “super score” your old SAT scores. They will “super score” your new SAT scores. BUT, will NOT combine old and new SAT scores.
Junior-Senior Prom 2016
Contact: K. Schmidt (833-3300 ext. 1811)
Prom is Saturday, April 30, 2016, from 8:00pm – 11pm, at The Emerald Coast Conference Center on Okaloosa Island. Dress is formal. Students will not be admitted to the Prom if not appropriately dressed.
Seniors will receive their Prom Invitation in WAVE after Spring Break. If a senior does not get an invitation, please see Mrs. Lemasters in the Guidance Office. This invitation is NOT a ticket – Seniors will still need to pick up a complimentary ticket during their lunch the week of April 25th-29th. Tickets for the Prom will go on sale during lunch, beginning Monday, April 25th – Friday, April 29th. Tickets will be $30.00 each for juniors and their guests. Seniors will receive one complimentary ticket and will be required to purchase a ticket for their date if the student is not a senior at FWBHS. No tickets can be sold after the 1:55pm on Friday, April 29th.
If one of our students wants to bring a date who does not attend our school, the date must be old enough to attend high school, but not older than 20 and must be approved by the Administration. If the date lives out of Okaloosa County, our student must pick up a form and get it to the date’s school and ask that school to fax it back to us. Forms are available starting Monday, March 28th. We must have the form back by 2:15pm on Friday, April 22nd in order to approve the date attending the Prom. Students, whose date attends an Okaloosa school, must pick up and complete a form. The form is due to Attendance no later than 2:15pm on Friday, April 22nd. APPROVAL IS NOT AUTOMATIC! The student will be notified if the date is not approved. If the date is not approved, the student will not be able to purchase a ticket. Please do not purchase dresses, rent tuxedoes, or line up a limo unless the date has been approved, because if the date is not approved, he/she will not be attending the Prom. Both forms are available in the Attendance Office starting Monday, March 28th.
Prom Dress Campaign
Contact: Z96 (850-243-7676)
Z96 Radio (WZNS) and Santa Rosa Mall are filling “The Z96 Prom Dress Store.”
Dresses are provided free of charge to high school young ladies whose families
may not have the financial means to purchase a dress for prom.
Any girls in need will be able to “shop by appointment” for a free dress at “The
Z96 Prom Dress Store” that will be located in Santa Rosa Mall.
Donations of new or almost new and in-style dresses are currently being
accepted, as well as purses, shoes or jewelry that are new or in very good
condition. Donations can be dropped off at the Santa Rosa Mall Office or at Z96
Radio located 225 Northwest Hollywood Blvd., Fort Walton Beach, from 8:30
a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
This is the twelfth year that Z96 has operated the “Z96 Prom Dress Store,” and
last year about 100 young ladies received free dresses. A large number of
dresses will be available, but we cannot guarantee that every girl will find a
dress in her size or style. Dixie Service Cleaners will provide dry cleaning
services if necessary for any dress at a great discount.
For more information about the “Prom Dress Campaign,” please contact Z96 at

beginning December 1st, 2015. The Office of Student Financial Assistance
(OSFA) website at www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org provides the FFAA to
students seeking state scholarship and grant awards (including Bright Futures)
for the 2016-2017 postsecondary academic year.
Applications can be made beginning December 1, 2015, for current seniors at
www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org .
Follow these steps:
Go to www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org. Select State Grants, Scholarships & Applications, and under Applicant Quick
Links, select Student Application to complete and submit an online application. Pay attention to program deadlines listed in the application conditions section,
on the application results screen, and on the application acknowledgement communication sent to the e-mail address provided by the student on his/her application.
The FFAA will provide a User ID and password to each applicant upon submitting the application via the Saved Results Page and in an e-mail communication.
Students may use User IDs and passwords to check: - The status of certification(s) prior to the program deadline(s). - The status of awards following the program deadlines. - Notifications from OSFA regarding award status.
This single application is used to evaluate the student for the following State of
Florida programs:
Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program – Deadline Graduation, 2016 José Martí Scholarship Challenge Grant – Deadline April 1, 2016 Rosewood Family Scholarship Program – Deadline April 1, 2016 Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans –
Deadline April 1, 2016
**We have 318 seniors that still need to submit a Bright Futures application.
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is not required to make
application for Bright Futures. BUT, it is strongly recommended that students &
parents complete this application if they will be applying for any federal financial
aid or aid from individual colleges. The FAFSA is required by most of the
financial aid offices at our colleges and universities. The FAFSA may be
completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov beginning January 1, 2016.
Transcripts for Bright Futures/FFAA will be evaluated three times yearly;
September, February, and July. The State collects the transcripts from our
database. The student does not have to “submit” these transcripts. **Whatever
is currently in our computer system on the date the State collects the
information is what Bright Futures will see – including test scores, GPA, and
community service hours.
Please encourage your student to use www.floridashines.org to review their
academic progress towards meeting the Bright Futures program eligibility
requirements.
Please ask students to review the minimum ACT/SAT test scores, GPA and
community service requirements for each of the possible Bright Futures
scholarships using the above website.

Military Family Corner
Contact: G. Widener (850-417-5251)
April is the Month of the Military Child The Month of the Military Child was established in 1986 to underscore the important role children play in the Armed Forces community. There are approximately 2 million military children, ranging in ages from newborn to 18
years old; 1.3 million military children are school-aged. Care of military children sustains our fighting force, and strengthens the health, security, and safety of our nation's families and communities. From deployments to new schools, military children are faced with unique challenges that ordinary youth their age never experience. Their ability to adapt to present and future changes deserves our respect and admiration. To promote community awareness and support of military children, everyone is invited to participate in “Purple Up!” Purple Up! is an annual campaign that was created four years ago as a way to show support and thanks to our military youth for their strength and sacrifices. On April 15th wear the color purple as a visible way to show support for the FWBHS military youth. Why purple? Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is a combination of Army green, Marine red, and Coast Guard, Air Force, and Navy blues.

Oh My God, You Guys! It’s Legally Blonde The
Musical!
Contact: C. Whittaker (833-3300 ext. 1819 or
Tickets are now on sale for LEGALLY BLONDE, Fort Walton Beach High School’s
spring musical. Based on the popular 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon,
the musical is fun and quirky with highly catchy songs and energy-charged
choreography and involves over 100 students in the cast and crew. The musical
runs Thursday, April 14th through Saturday, April 16th, at 7:00pm, and Sunday,
April 17th, at 2:00pm, at the Ft. Walton Beach High School Theatre, 400
Hollywood Boulevard, SW, Ft. Walton Beach, FL.
Junior Sophia Metcalfe plays Elle Woods, the Malibu sorority sister who, after
being dumped by her aspiring politician boyfriend, Warner (Ben Tanner), for not
being “serious” enough, uses her underestimated intelligence to get into
Harvard Law School to impress him. Far from her comfort zone, Elle is suddenly
a misfit, who, with the help of new friends Emmett (Grant Oberle), a teaching
assistant with a working class background, and Paulette (Sydney Johnson-
Bethea), a down-on-her-luck hairdresser, finds her true calling in life (hint: It’s
not Warner). Also guiding her is a “Greek chorus” made up of her UCLA sorority
sisters, who only she (and later Paulette) can see. Her biggest foils are Harvard
elite mean girl Vivienne (Sydney Whittaker), who also happens to be Warner’s
Jackie O-like girlfriend, and the agenda-driven Professor Callahan (Jake Eiche).
During her journey to find love, Elle discovers that disappointment is only
opportunity in disguise, and proves that being true to yourself never goes out of
style. This high-energy pop musical's fun and catchy score features music and
lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin, and a hysterical book by Heather
Hach.
Pre-sale tickets are available in the school office and from cast members for
$10. Tickets will also be sold at the door but will be $15. The performance is
rated PG-13 for sexual innuendo, so parental discretion is advised.
The Sunday, April 17 matinee is “Going to the Dogs” day, and anyone who brings
a bag of dog food (of at least 3.5 pounds) to be donated to local shelters and
rescues will get $5.00 off the admission price. Follow us on Twitter:
