As a member of the Core Group that prepared the Human Development Report of

Kerala 2005, I prepared three background papers and rewrote most of the Report

and drafted the ‘Acknowledgements’ section.

As Associate Coordinator of the M Phil Programme at CDS, I was actively involved

in designing the new M Phil curriculum in 2003-2004 and in preparing and bringing

out the M Phil Programme Handbook.

Involved in preparing and fine-tuning the syllabi of the following papers for M A

Programme at CDS in 2011-2012: Mathematics for Economics, Econometrics:

Theory and Applications, Topics in Applied Econometrics, History of Economic

(2) ‘The Challenge of Social Protection in Rural India and China’, sponsored by

the Ford Foundation (along with Prof. KP Kannan and in collaboration with the

Rural Development Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,

Beijing. Commenced in January 2004. A Study Report on Social Protection in

Rural India was submitted in June 2007.

The main objective of this research programme is to develop an intellectual case

for social security in its comprehensive sense as an entitlement, more precisely, as

a “right”, to the poor, excluded and vulnerable social groups and to pursue the

possibility of its universal coverage in China and India.

(3) ‘Mid-Term Appraisal of the XI Five Year Plan of Kerala’

The Draft Report prepared by a team of researchers, coordinated by me at CDS

for the Planning Commission of India was completed in December 2010. The

Report is organized in two parts:

a) Study 1 on the Monitorable Indicators

The Report attempts to study the trends in these indicators from the Ninth

Plan period onwards, subject to data availability, and also the likelihood of the

State to achieve the targets for the Eleventh Plan.

b) Study 2 on the Performance of Flagship Programmes.

The Report attempts to study the performance of the State in these

programmes from the year 2002-03 (or from the year of commencement of the

programme), subject to data availability.
