For Kindergarteners it is a time of growth both physically and intellectually. They are growing their literacy powers to become Avid Readers. The students will talk deeply about books, envisioning the drama of a story, sharing their responses and continue to use their reading muscles during reading workshop. Kindergarten children are all language learners and are ripe to learn and try out new words. Vocabulary continues to develop as the students transition more into non-fiction reading. Poetry is another opportunity that can expand word knowledge and increase vocabulary development. The ultimate goal is to celebrate children’s natural curiosity as they continue to grow their social skills along with their reading skills in an engaging, memorable, and appropriate way. We look forward to what this new season will bring! Writing Workshop This month our Writers will write stories that are “ALL About” a given topic/theme. Ask your child what their class has picked to write “ALL ABOUT” this month. Some topics/themes may change as April progresses and that is fine. Our students are most excited about this type of writing because they can show the world how much they know about a given topic and write about it with matching illustration. Math Workshop In April, students will be finishing up chapter 8 (Represent, Count, and Write numbers 20 and Beyond (up to 100). Chapter 9 focuses on a new critical area, “Identifying and Describing Shapes”. Initially, students will use attributes such as size, color, and shape to determine similarities and differences in order to answer the essential question, “How can you identify, name, and describe two-dimensional shapes?” Rainbow Kids C – WE ARE CARING This month in class, our students will be participating in Earth Day celebrations and learning how to care for our planet and environment. This theme will continue during our Rainbow Kids assemblies. Students will be reminded of the skills they can use to care for themselves, their friends and family members. This month, Prospect School will participate in a building wide community service project – all students will be encouraged to bring a new/unused pair of socks to school and we will donate the socks to a community- based program in our area. Thank you! The April Character Value is Trustworthiness Physical Education Corner Last month, we traveled the world by exploring dances. We learned 4 dances. They are Hokey Pokey, The Bunny Hop, The Mexican Hat Dance and The Conga Line Dance. The students had a great time. Ask your child to show you the dances at home. Turn on the music and get dancing.

Niños/as Arco IrisC – SOMOS CUIDADOSOS
