“What is this new music about? Like all other music it’s about ways of building with sounds different kinds of sounds single sounds sounds in twos and threes many different sounds together patterns and directions of sounds high sounds low sounds long sounds short sounds textures and colors of sounds rough sounds smooth sounds bright sounds dull sounds In fact, anything you care to do with sounds Above all Music is about feeling it is about being sensitive to sounds about saying things through sounds about listening to sounds you’ve never heard before Go right back to beginnings. Try to forget all the assumptions we make about music; about rhythm and melody. At its most fundamental Music is about getting excited by sounds… Find some sounds and try to make music” From “Hear and Now” by John Paynter
