The aesthetic demands of our patients are constantly increasing. The desire to make treatment invisible or as discreet as possible is a challenge for the profession. Throughout the day case material of adults and adolescents will be used to highlight aspects of contemporary aesthetic treatment from the initial consultation to the follow up of retention patients.

Can new digital technologies improve the patient’s experience? An analysis of the pros and cons of some of these technologies will be presented illustrated with case material. Examples of digitally created customized appliances will be shown with clinical case material and emphasis will be made on the orthodontist’s ability to control the design and development of the appliances be it an initial appliance or a fixed retainer. Interdisciplinary case material will be used to highlight the benefits of enhanced communication between clinicians and the patients.

With his work on the patient journey Dr Christensen is aiming to improve the experience for both the patient and the orthodontist. By improving the communication between the patient and the orthodontist the chances of establishing a valid, realistic treatment plan will be greatly increased to the benefit of all parties.
