Activity Name: Guest Lecture Guest: Mr. Tulsi Niroula (A motivational speaker)

Topic- Self Management: Know Yourself Date/Time: 2073-05-23/10:00 am to 12:30 pm

Venue: College Seminar Room Participants: All BBA-IV Semester Students

Objective-: Making students aware about their inner strength, weaknesses and opportunities, so that they might be able to analyse themselves and make right decisions.

Brief Description of the Activity-

The session was started by the formal welcome of the Guest Speaker. Students were instructed to avail in maximum from this beneficial session.

The Speaker began the lecture describing the concept of Self management. He explained that the first step towards such management, naturally, is to know self so as to understand own strengths and weaknesses. He emphasized to take the process being very honest with one-self: also taking into account the prime universal fact that nobody can be perfect in all aspects.

He further explained on few ways of learning about self: basically through three ways – by hearing, by seeing and by doing.

Guidelines on the practice of the three ways : 1. Ask for feedback: Talk with people who do have a sense of your working style and ask them for feedback about your strengths and areas for improvement. 2. Think yourself: If you don’t have anyone whom you can ask right now, think about prior performance appraisals you’ve received and use that feedback. 3. Process: Once you get feedback, take the time to process and evaluate it. “I’d caution people not to dismiss it immediately.” 4. Decide: You might agree with all of the feedback, parts of it, or none of it. But think it through, make the decision for yourself, and then decide what you will do with the information. 5. Devise a self-improvement method: Consider creating a SMART plan to develop a skill or read motivational books that motivates you positively. ‘One book on my bookshelf is Marcus Buckingham’s ‘Discover your Strengths’. In the book, there is an opportunity to take an

assessment that can help you define your personal strengths: Great way to create your path of self-discovery. If you have ever taken any assessments in the past, this is a good time to take them out and review them. Consider the results and, like the process above, evaluate what you need to focus on moving forward. 6. Step out of your comfort zone: Do something you haven’t done before. For example, if you’re apprehensive about public speaking, you may go out and volunteer to do a public presentation. Use the evaluations from the sessions to improve. Then do it again.

During the delivery, few suggestions were provided to the participating students which included ‘stepping back to assess and evaluating our personal strengths and weaknesses is a valuable exercise for both our professional and personal lives. It allows us to keep focused and positioned to adapt as per the need’; ‘Love yourself and your career first to bring into fore your other loves automatically’ etc.

Lastly, ‘Know Yourself’ forms were filled which included their SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat) information and feedback.
