The BCI Forecaster is a leading monthly indicator of construction market values entering the market. It serves as an

indispensable short term planning tool, designed to enable decision makers to set realistic goals and parameters for their sales and

operations teams.

Construction start values are based on projects reported on a daily basis in BCI Asia’s real-time project leads database. Data is

provided for Indonesia as a whole, for building and civil construction, as well as for six key construction sectors: residential,

community, education, office, industrial and retail/ hotel (in each case broken down by public vs. private).

The short term review of market developments contrasts the most recent three months against the three months prior; the short

term forecast compares the upcoming three months with the most recent three months’ period. The long term review contrasts

the most recent twelve months against the corresponding twelve months’ period in the prior year. The long term forecast compares

the twelve months’ period ending three months out with the corresponding period in the prior year.

Statistical trend data is enhanced with information on important projects shaping the market. Projects both from Indonesia

(building construction) and the region (civil construction and specific construction sectors) are highlighted.

Total construction starts are expected to undergo a short-term fall of 28%, with most sectors turning out negative forecasts over the next

3 months. The weakening rupiah against the $ has been posing increasing costs on the construction industry, and the economy has

continued to contract despite recent government plans for stimulus measures.
