Scope of Practice Setting: A large tertiary care hospital with regional and international referrals.Size: Approximately 1,000 outpatient visits, 1,250 inpatient contacts, and 200 consults per year.New referrals: Approximately 4 per week.Responsibilities: Clinical, leadership/administrative for inpatient service, developed

CME support for several recurring educational activities and regional meetings, teaching of students, residents, and fellows, medical school admissions and promotions committees

Time spent: 50% clinical, 20% administrative, 15% teaching, 15% service to outside organizations.

Innovation Developed new billing strategies to optimize reimbursement for inpatient services.Developed early EMR before organization committed to commercially available product.
