Moreover, this past year, Brussels Expo also successfully implemented its diversi-fication into the entertainment industry, with a number of concerts and show datesat PALAIS 12, as well as the organisation and promotion of two festivals, two publicevents and public exhibitions (Bruxelles les bains and Winter Wonders).

Brussels Expo now manages two new downtown locations outside its Heyselhome. These are the impressive Palais de la Bourse (Stock Exchange Building),host of the Beer Temple in 2018, and Madeleine Hall, conveniently located inthe city centre.

To bring the best out of the iconic Madeleine Hall, BrusselsExpo is transforming it into a concert and show theatre forup to 1.500 spectators. In addition to the event rental ofthe space, Brussels Expo will take advantage of its experi-ence and knowledge acquired managing its many venues, and develop the agenda of concerts and shows.

Next to the focus on new developments, Brussels Exporemains committed to preserving its traditional homebase, with heavy investments in its infrastructure –both on a technical level and in terms of im-proving visitor access and MICE facilities. These investments will be made in thenext few years and are in line with theNEO project that will provide Brus-sels Expo with a renewed attractiveenvironment.

The City of Brussels and the Brus-sels-Capital Region hope to trans-form the neighbourhood into a vitaleconomic and international centre.Projections are for 15 million ex-pected visitors to Heysel by 2021!

These diverse investment opportu-nities speak to a bright future andwill continue to strengthen Brussels’impressive international standing.

Brussels Expo Group is now active in three different industries: Fairs and Exhibi-tions, Entertainment, and MICE. Our activities have confirmed the ability of thegroup to diversify from the historic and core business of Fairs and Exhibition.

Entertainment will play a key part in bringing new content. Our successful concerthall PALAIS 12, combined with the new opportunities of our downtown concertvenue La Madeleine, The Brussels Summer Festival and our promotional entityFire-Starter, allow us to add to the appeal of Brussels as a destination.

We also see an increased focus on international trade fairs. They will help in thelong-term filling of the venue, as well as being beneficial for local trade develop-ment and the wider economic impact through business tourism.

The NEO project in our neighbourhood representstremendous opportunities for Brussels Expo Group toportray itself to the public as a favourite location toenjoy any kind of event. It will allow Brussels Expo tooperate competitively in the MICE sector.

A recurring theme across all facets of our businessis technology. Technology is an ever-increasing

component of our business mix whether it is in theexperience of the visitors or in the operational aspects.

We will therefore focus on technology as a USP.

In the meantime, we need to have the correct infra-structure and services. We are currently re-

fining the offering to be taken tomarket. Brussels Expo is in a good po-sition to deliver professional servicesto both organisers and exhibitors byproviding outstanding experiencesto visitors due to the talents of theindividuals within the group.

A business is only as good as itspeople and this past year hasbeen about defining and build-ing an organisational structureto have strength in-depthacross the disciplines, which

the new business will require.

FESTIVAL DES MUSIQUES

The Brussels Expo group includes several sub-sidiary companies enabling the group to di-versify its activities between three industries(Fairs and Shows, MICE and Entertainment)and two core businesses (Venue Managementand Organisation).

Since 2011 the Brussels Expo group has takenan important step in its development strategy, adding a strong Entertainment stream to itsFairs and Shows and MICE businesses. Thisstrategy creates complementary activities, limiting the risks associated with exposure ofits activities to the economic environment ofa single sector, while enabling it to intensifythe use of facilities in under-exploited periodssuch as school holidays and evenings. Thisstrategy also provides the group with exposureto industries with different economic cyclesand audiences. Entertainment activities rep-resent more than 40% of the total turnovergenerated by the group in 2014-2015.

The Entertainment sector allows BrusselsExpo to open up to new opportunities in ac-tivities with high added value. In terms ofMICE, the NEO project will bring the groupa third infrastructure, which is complementaryto its first two activities – an internationalconvention centre. In terms of fairs andshows, Brussels Expo aims to stabilise itsrentals for general public shows and redevelopinternational and B2B shows.

«The conference centre is a great complimentary asset forBrussels Expo, granting direct access to the MICE market. This new infrastructure is an excellent opportunity forBrussels Expo to develop new and essential functions inaddition to its existing activities. Plus, this new in-frastructure is the natural extension to its existingone. Conference activities at Heysel could use our meet-ing rooms and event halls. Palais 12, for instance, canhost conferences of up to 10.000 participants».

Denis Delforge, CEO of Brussels Expo.
