Vietnam catches a wave for growth and hiring

As we launch into a new decade, nobody can deny that globally there are some economic dark clouds on the horizon But sitting in Vietnam, a nation that has always overcome the odds, there remains so many great reasons for optimism

The first point is how far we’ve come in recent times Over the past decade alone, Vietnam’s 10-year average annual GDP growth has been 54%; and the World Bank predicts that real GDP growth in 2020 and 2021 will remain and sit at a very healthy 6.5%. With inflation low, social security high and the middle class growing rapidly, Vietnam’s 94.6 million-strong nation looks set for another exciting decade ahead

Over the past year, more investors are seeing the nation as a sound bet: as indicated by foreign direct investment inflows, which reached almost US$18 billion in 2018, almost 24% of total investment in the economy

In Michael Page Vietnam’s growing market segments in particular, we continue to see a race for market-ready talent, particularly those with a strong track-record, who are looking to move their careers forward across some of our hotter disciplines including Digital, Property, Fintech, Manufacturing and FMCG Likewise, the continued movement of the technology, software, gaming and mobile segments, makes for a buoyant conversation around the start-up market, and makes Technology in general an exciting space

These fast-moving sectors combined with the geographic and demographic advantages Vietnam enjoys, make it an interesting time for offshore Vietnamese too My team and I are eager to continue to provide a bridge to those looking at opportunities to experience this exciting market first-hand.

With the middle class growing rapidly, Vietnam’s 946 million-strong nation looks set for another exciting decade aheadPaul Cooper Managing DirectorMichael Page Vietnam
