VVA STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN THE IIMUN CHAMPIONSHIP CONFERENCE VVA students participated in the IIMUN Championship Conference held in Mumbai from 26th August, 2016 to 28th August, 2016.

They were accompanied by the Vice Principal, Tania Monteiro.

IIMUN (Indian International Model United Nations) is a youth organization based in Mumbai, which organizes MUN conferences for students across 100+ cities in India and 15 countries internationally. An MUN is an academic simulation of United Nations where students act as diplomats and discuss various international affairs and try to come up with solutions to them. They also stimulate the Indian Parliament, in order to make the youth aware about issues in our nation. The solutions are then sent to our government and the UNDPI to let them know about the students’ opinions on the current international, national or local topics discussed by them.

The conference at Mumbai was held at The Taj Palace Hotel. The opening ceremony was on 26th August, morning, with a lot of splendour and eloquent speakers, like Mr. Ram Jethmalani, the eminent lawyer, Mr. Maniderjeet Singh, Chairman of All – India Anti Terrorist Front, Cyrus Broacha, TV anchor and theater personality, Mr. Terrence Lewis, famous dance Choreographer, Mr. Rohit Shetty, famous Bollywood film maker and Ex-Chief Minister Pruthviraj Chauhan who enthralled the students with their experiences and words of inspiration. Mr. Lesle Lewis concluded the ceremony by belting in some of his famous songs.

The delegation comprised of about 500 students ranging from Class 6 to University level. In all 42 schools participated from all over India

Following committees were allocated to the students : Joint Parliamentary Session / General Assembly Plenary / PM’S Special Summit / Economic and Social Committee / Continuous Crisis Committee /ICIj / UN security Council.

ceremony to the people to the quality of debate, the IIMUN Championship Conference in Mumbai was

absolutely phenomenal. Being part of the futuristic ECOSOC committee set in the year 2030 and listening to

the varied opinions voiced by my fellow delegates were eye-opening. To think that kids still in their teens

can put forward such well thought- out and interesting arguments is amazing.

The stand – up comedy routine at the social event of Day 2 was an especial highlight for me and, of course, getting to spend three entire days at the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel was nothing short of brilliant. To add to that, the fact that we got to stay at The Majestic ITC Grand Hotel (with it’s gorgeous breakfast lounge and all it’s stylish decor) was the icing on an already delicious cake. If I could, I would do it all again in a blink. The IIMUN Championship is an experience I will never forget.”

The IIMUN Championship Conference was indeed an enriching

experience for the students as well as for me, as I got to interact

with heads of institutions and teachers from other states in India.

The motivation from the management of Vidya Vikas Mandal and

encouragement from the Principal, Mr. Alan Rodrgues and co-

operation from the parents, made it possible for the students to

attend this conference.
