Our Student Created News Show
• Student created• Students are aided in
selction of content• Read scripts• Pull weather slides of
the internet• Student Produced
Clubs
• Done for each grade level once a week (K-5)• This gives us an opportunity to work with
small groups of students to begin to teach them video taping techniques
• Typically work with 4th and 5th grades
Movie Maker
• Great for editing individual student videos with students
• Place videos in the shared directory that they have access to
• Students are limited to 75 megs, so videos must be kept short.
• No Green Screen ABILITY
To create a green screen
• Invest in a light green or blue paint, poster board, or cloth.
• You need a solid color surface with no wrinkles.
• Felt or cloth can work great• The cost of the Green screen at front is $9.00
Green Screen Programs
• I typically use Sony Vegas (around $400- I use an old version)- not on the approved list
• IMovie- probably the easiest but you must have a mac
• With students we have used Adobe Premiere Elements ($99)- relatively easy but robust machines are required
• I have been experimenting with Wax 2.0 (free)- not on the approved list
Premiere Elements
• Great tool for simple movies. Older versions are cheaper.
• Simple to do a green screen video. • Configuration not as easy as Vegas
Wax 2.0
• Free- Typically the lease usable• You must have a converter/ the right kind of
video• Use AVI files
Stock Footage (pictures and video)
• Stock Footage for Free.com• Royalty Free• Archive.org• Collection
Real Player
• http://www.real.com• Great for video downloads from the net• New version will convert to most common
formats (Mac/ Windows/ Linux)
Gimp
• www.gimp.org/downloads/ • Can be used to edit pictures and great for
greenscreening in backgrounds
• Once you have your photos, open one in your favorite editing program (GIMP, Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Corel Paint Shop Pro, etc.). Create a new blank layer and set it as the background layer. Go to the photo layer, select the greenscreen background using the magic wand, and delete the green area. What remains should be your model against a blank background. If you wish, you can even insert another background in a new layer below the model layer, for example a SL landscape shot.
