STANDARDSFORSTUDENTACHIEVEMENTGRADINGPROCEDURES Thefollowingaretherequirementstocompletetheprogramandearnadiploma.Studentsmustsuccessfullycompletethe1600clockhoursofinstructionandpracticaloperationsintherequiredcurriculumdescribedabove.Thequalitativeelementusedtodetermineacademicprogressisareasonablesystemofgradesasdeterminedbyassignedacademiclearning.Studentsareassignedacademiclearningandaminimumnumberofpracticalexperiences.Academiclearningisevaluatedaftereachsubjectofstudy.Practicalassignmentsareevaluatedascompletedandcountedtowardcoursecompletiononlywhenratedassatisfactoryorbetter(thesepracticalassignmentsaretrackedusingtheschoolsSMARTsystemonline).Iftheperformancedoesnotmeetsatisfactoryrequirements,itisnotcountedandtheperformancemustberepeateduntilasatisfactorygradeisachieved.

Atleasttwocomprehensivepracticalskillsevaluationswillbeconductedduringthecourseofstudy.Practicalskillsareevaluatedaccordingtotextproceduresandsetforthinpracticalskillsevaluationcriteriaadoptedbytheschool.Studentsmustmaintainawrittengradeaverageof75%andpassaFINALwrittenandpracticalexampriortograduation.Studentsmustmakeupfailedormissedtestsandincompleteassignments.Numericalgradesareconsideredaccordingtothefollowingscale:

90-100EXCELLENT80–89VERYGOOD70–79SATISFACTORY0-69BELOWSTANDARDS–UNSATISFACTORY

PROBATIONANDDISMISSALStudentsareexpectedtomaintainthefollowingacademicprogressandareevaluatedattheendofeachsection:

1. Acumulativeacademicaverageof“Satisfactory”(70%-79%)orbetterattheendofeachsection.2. Acumulativeattendanceaverageof85%orbetterofthescheduledhoursattheendofeachsection.3. Compliancewiththeschool’spolicies,rules,andregulations.

Studentswhofailtomaintaintheforegoingsatisfactoryacademicprogresswillbeplacedonprobationuntilthenextevaluationperiod.Studentswhofailtomeetsatisfactoryacademicprogressattheendoftheprobationperiodmaybedismissedfromthecourse.Studentswhoareabsentfor21dayswithoutwrittenapprovalwillbedismissedfromthecosmetologyprogram.

Thedismissedstudent’stuitionobligationwillbeinaccordancewiththeSchool’srefundpolicy.Studentwarningnoticesareissueduponviolationofanyoneorpartofthepolicies,rules,andregulations.Anystudentreceivingthree(3)StudentWarningsduringhis/hercoursewillbesubjecttosuspension,foraperiodtobedeterminedbyManagement,orimmediatedismissal.

ATTENDANCEVidalSassoonAcademyisopenMondaythroughSaturday8:45AMto7:45PM,exceptonpublicholidays.Studentsareexpectedtoattendschoolfor40hoursperweek.Thecourseiscompletedin2sectionswithatwoweekmid-termbreak,overa44weekperiod.

DuetotheintensivenatureofinstructionatVidalSassoonAcademythereisnoallowancemadeforabsenteeismortardiness.Overtimewillbechargedtoanystudentwhohasnotcompleted1600hoursattheendof44weeks.Attendanceandtardinessarerecordedbyatimeclockonweeklytimecardsandstudents’hoursarecalculatedweeklybyasupervisor.

Ondaysthatstudentaretoarriveat8:45AM,therewillbeanavailablewindowtoarriveupto9:15AMonly,unlessthestudentorganizesalaterarrivalonspecifieddaywithmanagement.Studentsmusthavesignedmanagementapprovalforarrivingafter9:15AM.Ifthereisnowrittenapprovalforlatearrival,studentmustnotattendclassthatdayandnotreceivecreditforhoursthatday,butmayreturnduringregularhoursontheirnextscheduledday.

Studentswhoareabsentfor21dayswithoutwrittenapprovalwillbedismissedfromthecosmetologyprogram.

LEAVE-OF-ABSENCEOccasionally,studentsmayexperienceextendedpersonal,medicalorotherproblems,whichmakeitdifficulttoattendclasses.TheinstitutionmayallowastudentundersuchcircumstancestotakeaLeaveofAbsence(LOA)fromtheprogram.LOAmustberequestedinwritingbythestudentandmustbeapprovedbytheschooladministration.Thewrittenrequestmustincludethestartandenddateoftheleaveofabsence.LeavesofAbsencemaybegrantedforupto180days.Studentswillnotbeassessedadditionaltuitionchargeswhileontheirleaveofabsence.

StudentsreturningfromanauthorizedLOAwillretainallcreditforclockhoursandworkprojectscompleted,andwillreturntotheacademicprogressstatustheyheld.StudentswhofailtoreturnfromaLOAwillbeconsidereddismissedasofthelastclassdayofattendance.Asofthesamedate,theloanrepaymentprocesswillbeinitiated.Studentsmustbereasonablycertainoftheirintenttoreturn.Ifthestudentdoesnotreturnasscheduled,thegraceperiodonanystudentloanwillreverttostartcountingfromthefirstdayoftheleave.Inthesecasestheloanpaymentwillbedueasstatedonthepromissorynote.

STATELICENSUREREQUIREMENTSThecourseisdesignedtoleadtoapositioninthecosmetologyfield,whichrequireslicensurebythestate.ThecurriculumforstudentsenrolledinaCosmetologycourseshallconsistof1600clockhoursoftechnicalinstructionandpracticaloperationscoveringallpracticesconstitutingtheartofcosmetology.Technicalinstructionwillbebydemonstration,lecture,classroomparticipationandexamination.Practicaloperationshallmeantheactualperformancebythestudentofacompleteserviceonanotherpersonoronamannequin.Practicaloperationsshallmeanthetimeittakestoperformapracticaloperation.Suchtechnicalinstructionandpracticaloperationsshallinclude:

Toqualifyfortheexamination,acandidatemustpaytherequiredfee,beatleast17yearsofage,completedthe10thgradeinpublicschooloritsequivalent,committednoactorcrimesconstitutinggroundsfordenialoflicensureunderSection480oftheCaliforniaBarberingandCosmetologyActBusinessandProfessionscode,andcompletedthe1600hourrequirementsaslistedaboveinanapprovedCaliforniaCosmetologyschool.ASocialSecurityNumberisrequiredtotaketheCosmetologyTestwiththeCaliforniaBoardofBarberingandCosmetology.

StateboardexaminationsaregiveninFairfieldandGlendaleandtheBoardnotifiesthestudentoftheirexpectedexaminationdate.Thecandidateforexaminationmustpassthewrittenandpracticalteststoreceivealicense.AcandidatepassingthewrittenandpracticalexaminationandBoardreceiptofa‘ProofofTraining’documentissuedbytheschoolentitlestheexamineetoissuanceofastatelicense.

FACULTYTRACISAKOSITS|NORTHAMERICANCREATIVEDIRECTORTracigrewuparoundthefamilysaloninNewJersey.ShebeganCosmetologyschoolrightafterhighschoolandbegananapprenticeshipprogramattheVidalSassoonSaloninNewYork.Uponcompletionofhertrainingprogram,shetransferredtotheBeverlyHillsSalonasalicensedStylistandwassoonpromotedtoAssistantCreativeDirector.TracihasbeenaninstructorattheAcademysince1997andnowholdstheroleofNorthAmericanCreativeDirector.

TheStateofCaliforniaestablishedtheStudentTuitionRecoveryFund(STRF)torelieveormitigateeconomiclosssuffered

byastudentinaneducationalprogramataqualifyinginstitution,whoisorwasaCaliforniaresidentwhileenrolled,or

wasenrolledinaresidencyprogram,ifthestudentenrolledintheinstitution,prepaidtuition,andsufferedaneconomic

loss.Unlessrelievedoftheobligationtodoso,youmustpaythestate-imposedassessmentforSTRF,oritmustbepaid

onyourbehalf,ifyouareastudentinaneducationalprogram,whoisaCaliforniaresident,orareenrolledinaresidency

program,andprepayallorpartofyourtuition.

YouarenoteligibleforprotectionfromtheSTRFandyouarenotrequiredtopaytheSTRFassessment,ifyouarenota

Californiaresident,orarenotenrolledinaresidencyprogram.

Ifyouobtainaloantopayforaneducationalprogram,youwillhavetheresponsibilitytorepaythefullamountoftheloanplusinterest,lesstheamountofanyrefund.Ifyouhavereceivedfederalstudentfinancialaidfunds,youareentitledtoarefundofthemoneynotpaidfromfederalstudentfinancialaidprogramfunds.

REFUNDPOLICYIfnoticeofcancellationismadethroughattendanceatthefirstclasssession,ortheseventhclassdayafterenrollment,whicheverislater,youwillreceive100percentoftheamountpaidforinstitutionalchargeslessaSeventy-FiveDollar($75.00)registrationfee.Ifyouwithdrawthereafterandatthetimeofwithdrawalhavecompleted60percentorlessoftheperiodofattendanceyoushallreceiveaproratarefundforeducationservicesnotrenderedandunreturnedbooksandsupplies.Norefundwillbemadeforanyportionofyourequipmentortoolkit,becausethesesuppliescannotbereusedduetohealthandsanitaryreasons.Therefundshallbetheamountyoupaidforinstructionmultipliedbyafraction,thenumeratorofwhichisthenumberofhoursofinstructionwhichyouhavenotreceivedbutforwhichyouhavepaid,thedenominatorofwhichisthetotalnumberofhoursofinstructionforwhichyouhavepaid.Youareliablefortheamount,ifany,bywhichtheprorataordocumentedcostforbooksandsuppliesexceedstherefundamount.Iftheamountyouhavepaidismorethantheamountyouowe,thenarefundwillbemadewithinforty-five(45)daysofwithdrawalforthedifference.Ifthestudenthasreceivedfederalstudentfinancialaidfunds,thestudentisentitledtoarefundofmoneysnotpaidfromfederalstudentfinancialaidprogramfunds.Iftheamountthatyouoweismorethantheamountthatyoupaid,thenyoushallmakearrangementstoimmediatelypaythatamount.Ifyouhavecompletedmore

than60percentoftheperiodofattendancepriortowithdrawal,theAcademywillnotrefundanyamountstoyou.Thisrefundpolicyappliestostudentdismissalsandfailurestoreturnfromleavesofabsence.

Forthepurposeofdeterminingtheamountofyourrefundortheamountthatyouowe,youshallbedeemedtohavewithdrawnfromthecoursewhenanyofthefollowingoccurs:(a)YounotifyinwritingtheAcademyofyourwithdrawalortheactualdateofwithdrawal;(b)TheAcademydismissesyoupursuanttoitspolicies;(c)Youfailtoreturnfromaleaveofabsence;inthiscase,thedateofwithdrawalshallbedeemedtobethelastdateofrecordedattendance;(d)Thedateyoufailtoattendclasseswithoutapprovalfortwenty-one(21)consecutivedaysandfailtoinformtheschoolthatyouarenotwithdrawing.

NOTICECONCERNINGTRANSFERABILITYOFCREDITSANDCREDENTIALSEARNEDATOURINSTITUTIONThetransferabilityofcreditsyouearnatVidalSassoonAcademyisatthecompletediscretionofaninstitutiontowhichyoumayseektotransfer.Acceptanceofthediplomayouearninthe1600HourCosmetologyCourseisalsoatthecompletediscretionoftheinstitutiontowhichyoumayseektotransfer.Ifthecreditsordiplomathatyouearnatthisinstitutionarenotacceptedattheinstitutiontowhichyouseektotransfer,youmayberequiredtorepeatsomeorallof

STUDENTSERVICESPLACEMENTTheAcademydoesnotofferplacementservicesanddoesnotguaranteeemployment.However,personalrecommendationsmaybegivenatthediscretionoftheindividualinstructor.

COUNSELINGDuetothelowstudenttoteacherratioaswellasacommitmenttoindividualizedattentionforthestudents,theSassoonAcademyisabletoofferacademiccounselingonanindividualbasis,astheneedarises.ThiscounselingiscarriedouteitherattherequestofthestudentorattherequestofanInstructor.Allcounselingisdoneintheprivacyofanofficeandwiththeunderstandingofconfidentiality.

HOUSINGVidalSassoonAcademyhasnoresponsibilitytofindorassistastudentinfindinghousing.Allhousingandaccommodationsaretheresponsibilityofthestudent.VidalSassoonAcademydoesnothavedormitoryfacilitiesunderitscontrol.Affordablehousingopportunitiesareavailablewithinacloseorreasonabledistancetotheacademylocationwithanestimatedcostrangeof$1000-$2000permonthexcludingsharedapartmentoptions.Noassistanceisprovidedtofindhousing–howevertheVidalSassoonAcademyadministrationteamwillbeabletorecommendresourcesforlocatinghousingandalsocollectsinformationleftbylocalpropertyownersseekingtoleasepropertiesorinformationfromotherstudentsseekingsharedapartmentoptions.

STUDENTRIGHTSSTUDENTGRIEVANCEPROCEDUREStudentsareencouragedtosettledisputes,misunderstandings,andcomplaintsamicablywiththeotherpersoninvolved.Studentsmayfileacomplaintbycommunicatingverballyorinwritingtoanyteacheroradministrator.Ifastudentdeliversthecomplaintverballyandthecomplainthasnotbeenresolvedeitherwithinareasonableperiodorbeforethestudentagaincomplainsaboutthesamematter,theinstitutionshalladvisethestudenttosubmitawrittencomplainttothePrincipalorOperationsManager.Theinstitutionshall,within10daysofreceivingthecomplaint,providethestudentwithawrittenresponse,includingasummaryoftheinstitution’sinvestigationanddispositionofit.Ifthecomplaintorreliefrequestedbythestudentisrejected,theinstitutionshallprovidethereasonsfortherejection.ThestudentmayalsomakeanappointmentwiththePrincipal&OperationsManagerforfinalresolution.

TheSchoolguaranteesthestudentaccesstotheircumulativerecordandtoprovidepropersupervisionandinterpretationofrecordswhentheyarebeingreviewedbystudents(parentorlegalguardianifstudentisadependent).Therecordsshallbemadeavailabletothestudent(parentorlegalguardianifstudentisadependent)uponwrittenrequest,atatimeconvenienttotheschoolbutnolaterthanfive(5)daysafterthereceiptofrequest.Thestudentsarenotentitledtoinspectthefinancialrecordsoftheirparents.VidalSassoonAcademyprovidesadequatesafeguardofstudentrecordsbycomplyingwiththeFamilyEducationalRightsandPrivacyAct(FERPA).

RETENTIONOFSTUDENTRECORDSVidalSassoonAcademymaintainsrecordsofthename,address,e-mailaddress,andtelephonenumberofeachstudentenrolledinourCosmetologycourse.Forstudentsgrantedadiploma,VidalSassoonAcademymaintainspermanentrecordsofthefollowing:

1. Thediplomagrantedandthedateonwhichthatdiplomawasgranted.2. Thecoursesandunitsonwhichthediplomawasbased.3. Thegradesearnedbythestudentineachofthosecourses.
