“Robertson Photography is
here. Hi Chris!”
“Good Morning Sir”
Test shot
“I’m teaching a
class right now,
but you can go
ahead and set up”
After class Master Godwin
took pictures and he
remembered an incident, years
ago that would change his life….
Camden, New Jersey Late 1970s

I knew for sure I needed training….had to
be better….not afraid…CONFIDENT!
Uph
I had to fight more
than one person that
day. I was lucky.
I left the area quickly
after landing a few blows.
I was determined to keep
them off of me.

Knuckle push-
ups….the most
challenging part
of class ----25,
26, 27
Monday to Friday 7 to 9. My evenings
began with warm up exercises
increasing flexibility and self- defense
near the end of class….my favorite!
My search ended at Yi’s Karate.
The next step would challenge what
I thought I knew. I was eager
to learn much more.
7
Years later I was asked to
work at Shin Karate in South
Philadelphia, Headquarters
of the World Tang Soo Do
Association. Grandmaster
Shin spoke to Master Yi about
my position. Master Yi thought
I would not be interested but I
told him I was very interested!
Classes
concluded with
a lecture
Knuckle inspection by instructors
I became assistant
instructor at Yi’s
Karate

At the World Tang Soo Do
Championships 1986 and 1989 Master
Godwin became World Champion in
fighting, forms, weapons
and demo team.
….for which I am very grateful
Master Yi gave me permission
to meet with Grandmaster Shin.
Grandmaster Shin gave me the
position and experience.

After tournaments
or testing,
invitations to dinner
by Master Yi along
with Grandmaster
Shin to a Korean or
Chinese restaurant,
was very enjoyable.
There were different
kinds of food and the
masters made us
sing….yes, made
us sing…..the good
old days.

Master Godwin waves goodbye to the photographer, Christopher
along with his wife Victoria. Master Godwin’s achievements
help many children and adults achieve their personal goals in self-
defense and also many students train for the love of the art.
In 2006 Master Godwin achieved 6th Degree
International Master Black Belt in Tang Soo Do
