STUDENT CONCERTS

Tatiana Harrison

Our sixth and last student concert of the season, held on 1 June at Gordon Head United Church, was a successful one. Thirteen studios submitted their entries and 34 performers arrived on a sunny afternoon.

The concert opened with the presentation of awards to four students for their support during the past season. These were: Evan Woo, Jasmine Zhang, Jenny Yu, and Nathan Salvador, who performed at least four times during the concert season. They were given their Participation Certificates, gift cards from Tom Lee Music, and boxes of chocolates provided by anonymous donors. These students are to be congratulated for their dedication to the concerts. Our president, Pat Williamson, presented the certificates and Tatiana Harrison assisted with gifts. A group photo was arranged and taken by Wendy Maggiora.

The programme started with five young players giving their debut performance on the stage, followed by more experienced players from the Junior division. It was nice to see an adult couple, David and Grace, appearing on the stage. David played the saxophone and performed Danny Boy.

The second part included performers from Grade 7 to Grade 10. Works by Mendelssohn, Chopin, Field, Piazzolla, Bartok, Haydn, and Beethoven were performed enthusiastically by the young musicians.

Thank you to Mike Harrison for his kind preparations of the stage, greetings in the lobby, and indeed for making such wonderful programmes.

The concert was attended by 75 people and donations at the door amounted to $141.
