Helms College is an autonomous, experiential, student-driven career college envisioned and developed by Goodwill Industries serving Middle Georgia and the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA). Helms College, a new nonprofit, accredited career college, seeks an experienced, enterprising, and visionary leader to serve as Vice President of Workforce and Economic Development.

The Vice President of Workforce and Economic Development is responsible for customized curricula development and implementation of

College in coordination with the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Other responsibilities include:

• Develops and maintains effective leadership roles and relationships with civic, legislative, business, government, and community leaders, in partnership with the Director of Business Development,

• Develops and maintains positive relationships with WIB, HUD, Vocational Rehabilitation, and the Georgia Department of Labor that results in increased funding

• Oversees Goodwill’s WIA One-Stop with 10 community service partners co-located ti serve the unemployed and business/industry

• Conducts industry job/training analysis and plans and designs performance-based training, as needed

• Performs and accurately

documents training needs analysis to include task analysis, equipment and process analysis and organizational business needs analysis in an efficient and professional manner

• Oversees all matters relating to customized curriculum and instruction for Helms College’s economic development and continuing education initiatives

• Institutes new program and course development and scheduling

• Conducts or oversees ongoing business and industry middle skills needs assessment

• Hires faculty and adjunct staff, as applicable

• Coordinates harmoniously with applied learning venue leadership and Director of Staffing Services to ensure results are positive for both students and Goodwill businesses.

• Oversees and evolves Goodwill Corporate University to improve advancement of

Goodwill employees and transitions Goodwill Corporate University into CEU format that serves Goodwill and business community workforce development

• Coordinates course scheduling and faculty assignment process

• Supports Goodwill Works Foundation by serving in the lead role in government grant development that increases Helms College capacity

Requirements Qualified candidates must have an advanced degree in a related field, with a Ph.D. or Ed.D. preferred. Other requirements include:

• Demonstrated academic leadership

• Demonstrated commitment to and leadership in education and improved student success

• Proven track record in strategic planning and academic improvement

The College gives individuals more personalized learning support so they can succeed in earning an associate degree. The college focuses on middle-skills careers with an emphasis on providing an experiential learning component, when possible.

The nonprofit, independent post-secondary career college offers a comprehensive curriculum that allows students to build on each level of learning, from a certificate to a diploma, to an associate degree. Academic Programs

The College’s initial degree-level academic offerings will be: • CulinaryArts– Associate of

Science Degree program

• FoodandBeverageManagement – Associate of Science Degree, certificate, and diploma programs

• InternationalBakingandPastry – Associate of Science Degree, certificate, and diploma programs

Beyond the initial associate degrees offered, Helms College will have certificate programs for high-demand growth industries.

Campuses Augusta - The campus is under construction with classes to begin in October 2012. The $12-million project includes five classrooms, three culinary kitchens for students, and a banquet area, along with a fully functioning restaurant.

An additional 30,000-square-foot expansion of programs is in the planning stages with a feasibility study by UGA’s Fanning Institute driving new certificate and degree program development.

Macon - Housed within the facilities of Goodwill Industries, the Macon campus features

multimedia classrooms; a computer lab; centralized library; fully-equipped, professional kitchen; a career services office; and Edgar’s restaurant, which provides for front-of-the-house training with exposure to upscale casual dining.

Aiken - The campus is in the planning phase and expected to open in 2014.

Helms College remains connected to Goodwill’s spiritual roots and faith-based perspective. The organization serves people of all faith back-grounds and offers weekly voluntary chapel services at all campuses.

Licensed by the Georgia Non-Public Post-Secondary Commission, Helms College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET). ACCET is a national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Macon & Augusta, Georgia

The Vice President for Workforce and Economic Development will be based in Macon and will travel frequently to oversee Augusta programs.

Located 75 miles south of Atlanta, Macon offers large-city amenities and true Southern hospitality. A popular tourist destination, Macon is known for its beautiful homes and cultural events and attractions. The city’s International Cherry Blossom Festival attracts over 300,000 participants annually.
