We have had a few issues at the Club with family members who are over the age of 23 using the Club’s facilities and participating in Club events. Please refer to the Club’s By-Laws, Article VII, Section1—General, B. Junior Membership. Persons up to the age of 23 who are enrolled in an accredited school or college on a full-time ba-sis will have all the privileges of their parents’ or guardians’ mem-berships. After the age of 23, or if persons are not full-time students in an accredited school or college, they must be with their member parents or guardians to participate in the Club’s activities. Please di-rect any questions or concerns to a Flag Officer. We appreciate eve-ryone’s attention to this matter. Lynda Day, Commodore

The children are back in school, but all is not lost. Some have taken the opportunity to play at our beach and

fish from the docks after school, AND are catching fish! The weekends are more focused on enjoyment of

    the time available.

GLYC was well represented by several volunteers, skippers, and three boats at the WAVE program at Palafox

Pier on August 9th. The Veterans and Active Duty Boat Buddies enjoyed the time on the water. Our First

Annual Kayak race was a challenge with strong winds and choppy seas, but the contestants all brought back

their buckets of sand to restore our beach. It was a great time for all on the deck and on the water. Heather

MacDonald won the singles and Leo and Sharron won the double kayak...both new members to GLYC! The

Bragging Rights Fishing Tournament is over. Hopefully, all the anglers had fun, and the members had great

    fresh fish to enjoy.

If you see our GLYC flagpole sporting a dressed-up look, you can thank Jim Harrison for the donation of the

    signal flags.

Events: September 20—Sail Locker work day 8-noon

    Every Saturday—Sail Training 10-noon

Labor Day weekend—raft-up at Sailboat Cove. Join us if you can.

Goal for this year: Let’s get ourselves and our youth out on the water.

Safety tip of the month: Check your Florida registration and stickers for your boats. The Coast guard is using a new

75’ cutter on the bay and lagoon and are doing more boat inspections than in the past. Remember, they have legal au-

thority to board your vessel at any time and issue citations, just like the Florida FWC does. They stopped me on my

sailboat last week, saw the courtesy Coast Guard Auxiliary Safety Sticker on the side of the porthole and wished me a

good day. We should all be so lucky! Being up to date on your safety equipment could save you the $$$ of a citation.

    Fair winds and following seas…

    GLYC Membership Drive 2014

    Kick Off: September 1, 2014

Dates: September and October (subject to

    change)

    Objective: Increase membership/revenue

Goal: Net 5 new members monthly

Process: Application can be downloaded or picked

up at GLYC. All completed applications must have

a member sponsor who invited the prospect from

outside the Club (Walk-in new members do not

count) and be turned in before the third Monday to

be voted on at the monthly GLYC Board Meeting.

Payments may be by check, cash or credit card.

The office will work with the proposed new mem-

    ber on credit card transactions.

Sponsors will receive a $100 monthly dues credit

for each new member approved by the Board dur-

ing this drive. Your account will be credited fol-

lowing the meeting approving the new member you

    sponsored.

When people ask about what they get with a mem-

bership, tell them they get the use of a friendly, pri-

vate, family-oriented facility which is one of the

most affordable ones on the Gulf Coast. They also

get access to a private boat ramp close to most is-

lands for camping, to NAS, the Pass for fishing, the

gateway to the Intercoastal and one of the most

beautiful backyards you can find anywhere. Be-

cause GLYC is a member of the Gulf Yachting As-

sociation, they also have access to other member

yacht clubs along the Gulf Coast.

    A GENTLE REMINDER

    From the Board:

    Please remember to pay your

monthly invoice by the 10th of

the month. It really helps your

    Club maintain a healthy finan-

cial status each month as well as

    efficient budget maintenance.

    Thanks!!!

Our August Bunco had 28 fun-loving participants, several of whom were first-timers. The Biggest Loser honor went to Steve Jones who lost 15 out of 18 rounds. Our Half and Half people were Kim Edens, Countess Guiles, Debbie Buckley, Laura Sebastian, John M. Adams, and John R. Adams. John R. also took Last Bunco. Fourth Place winners were Norma Jolly, Susan Ragland, Bear Mullican, and Mike Haskins. Third Place went to Susan McCall and Sec-ond Place to Patti Jones. Patti also had the distinc-tion of having Most Buncos and set a new GLYC re-cord with five of them. However, this was not enough to take Most Wins honors which went to a new-comer, Sallie Ellis, who won a whopping 15 out of 18 rounds! This, too, is a GLYC record! Sallie has promised to come back on the next Bunco Night, September 4, to defend her record. Join her and your friends and neighbors for September’s Bunco. Cost is only $10 for all the fun you can stand!

    BILL HARGREAVES FISHING RODEO

This year’s fishing rodeo was so successful GLYC was able to contribute $3,000 to the Ronald McDonald House. I visited the House this morning and presented the check to Judy Burns, Executive director. She was thrilled for the donation and for our Club’s partnership with the House. We are blessed to have a RMH in our city. You have to be proud for what your efforts in the BHFR each year brings to the table. The House will be celebrating 30 years next year and has helped over 10,000 families. Our Club has been a big part of touching those families. As Chuck Haskell and his team start to gear up for next year’s fishing rodeo, volun-teer to be on his committee. Your efforts will help us help another family or two. Lynda Day, Commodore
