    * Other devices: Devices not listed or Android Tablets are only partially supported, Or not supported at all.

Custom ROM: Viber for Android now only partially supports two of the most popular Android ROMs: MIUI and CyanogenMod 7 (CM7). However, custom ROM entails many personal tweaks which cannot be duplicated, thus cannot be tested. Our recommendations to you would be to either

  • uninstall and reinstall Viber [try again], or to find the proper customization which works best with Viber. Of course, returning your device back to it's original settings is the best option for compatibility. We have no way of duplicating your specific ROM settings, therefore, unfortunately, we cannot troubleshoot devices with altered ROM.

The Access Code feature was created for identification purposes and to protect your identity. Once you've registered, you will receive an Access Code via SMS or via callback to activate your Viber app. The Access Code ensures that you are the real owner of the cell number you have registered and prevents other users from obtaining your Access Code and placing calls with your caller ID.

    Blocked Countries, Regions, providers

Posted by Viber Support on 26 June 2011 03:18 PM

It has been brought to our attention that VoIP may be blocked by some cellular providers, Internet provider and/or countries.

Always confirm VOIP 3G access with your current 3G or Internet provider. Viber will not work on 2G networks.

Vodafone: It has been brought to our attention that in various regions Vodafone may be blocking Viber or VoIP applications. You should contact Vodafone to see how you can add 3G access for Viber to your current service plan. For more information pertaining to this block, please see the following links:

    Spain: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056398786 Hungary: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3338543?start=15&tstart=0 United Kingdom: http://appadvice.com/appnn/2011/02/vodafone-blocks-voip-applications-3g Netherlands:http://www.facebook.com/viber/posts/111297848958276

O2: Users, especially in the UK have reported 3G block. Mostly on 'pay as you go' plans. Please try wifi. And contact your service provider.

UAE: Even though the DU provider was allowing access before, it now seems that their VoIP and/or Viber service has also been blocked.

Belize: Options do exsist. Some user tips (Viber has not confirmed these tips) are available at

Please check with your carrier because Viber cannot bypass your carrier's network blockage if one exists.

Please try again at a later date to see if this has been resolved.

Posted by Viber Support on 30 May 2011 06:47 AM

Text messaging Worldwide for free is as easy as ever with Viber.

To place a free call with Viber:

    1. With the Viber application running in the foreground, tap on the 'Contacts' button at the bottom of the screen.

    2. Locate the contact with the Viber badge next to their name, and tap on the Viber badge.

  • You can also tap on the contact's name. The 'info' screen will open, and then just tap on the 'Free call' button.

You can also dial manually by simply tapping on the 'keypad' tab at the bottom of the screen and typing the number. The correct dialing sequence for +1 (212) 555-1234 would be; +12125551234 [+country][cell or city prefix][number].

Absolutely! Make local AND international Viber to Viber calls at no cost. It doesnt matter whether you and your friends are on the same network or in a completely different country, you can talk and text as much as you want, for free. Just make sure your friends also have Viber and that you have Wifi or 3G internet connection [3G connections may incur charges so please check with your cell provider about 3G internet charges]. Android: Auto recognition of other Viber users in your Contacts

Posted by Viber Support on 30 May 2011 07:35 AM

You already have your contacts' phone numbers, so why bother with yet another username and password? If you have a mobile phone number then you have a Viber number.

Once you've registered, Viber uses your phone number as your user number and lets you make free Viber phone calls to any of your contacts who have Viber simply by using THEIR phone number. Once you've downloaded Viber, it will automatically recognize other Viber users in your phone's contact list and identify them by showing a small Viber badge next to their names. To call or text them, tap on the badge and make your free Viber call.

You may also update your contacts as follows:

    1. Open the Viber app.

    2. Select the 'Contacts' tab at the bottom of the Viber app screen.

    3. Tap on the Android phone Menu tab.

    4. Then select 'Update Contacts'.

Note: Sometimes it may take a moment to update. If this is the case,

    1. You may force close Viber, or turn off your device.

    2. Place a call, using the keypad, to the person who you know has Viber but is without a Viber badge.

    3. Send an invitation to the person who you know has Viber.

  • 4. Re-add the contact.

    5. Just wait a bit... It will sync and update.

Android: Viber Call with WiFi or 3G

Posted by Viber Support on 30 May 2011 08:11 AM

There are no fees - not even hidden ones. Viber and all Viber features are absolutely free, and do not require any additional in-application purchases. On top of that, Viber doesnt contain any annoying ads.

Once you and your friends install Viber, you can use it to talk or text freely, both locally and internationally.

All you need is an Internet connection: 3G or WiFi wherever available (3G may incur operator data charges or internet access fees. Check with your 3G provider to see your 3G plan). The bandwidth rate during a Viber call is approximately 240 KB per minute / 14 MB per hour.

Android: Add a new contact to Viber

Posted by Viber Support on 30 May 2011 08:26 AM

Let Viber do all the work for you

Invite your friends or relatives to join Viber! There are two ways to do this:

    1. Go to your contact list on Viber, tap on the desired contact, then tap on the 'Invite to Viber' button (see image 1).

    Image 1:

  • 2. Go to the 'More' tab on Viber, tap on 'Invite by SMS', and choose a contact to send the SMS invite to (see image 2).

    Image 2:

No need to search for Viber contacts

Unlike other applications where you need to add buddies and have them approve you, Viber automatically tags your contact list with your contacts that have Viber. Viber operates just like

  • a regular phone, so if you know your contacts' phone number, then you already know their Viber number.

To call your Viber contacts, find them either in your:

    1. Contact list on Viber. You can also filter contacts by tapping on the 'Viber' button on top left hand corner.

    2. Or dial their phone number, e.g. +1-(555)-555-5555.

If you dont know if your contacts have Viber, you can dial their number on Viber and if they dont have Viber, the call will be redirected using your regular phone plan but dont forget to invite your friends to Viber so that your next call will be free* ;)

    * When you use Viber on a 3G network you might incur operator data charges or internet access fees.

Stay in touch with your friends and relatives - for free!

    Android: Block Caller

Posted by Viber Support 1 on 29 June 2011 08:38 AM

Viber uses your contact list to recognize other Viber users. Viber works like a regular phone so no one can call you on Viber unless they already have you listed or know your telephone number. Since the person calling you has your number, there is no way to block him from calling you, not via Viber nor via your regular carrier.

When you decline a call, the caller will be unaware, they will still hear ringing until they hang up or until the call attempt times out (approx. 50-60 seconds). You will then receive a missed call notification.

The Switch to GSM button gives you the option to place a regular GSM call instead of a free Viber call.

    1. Open Viber

    2. Tap on the 'More' tab

    3. Tap on 'Deactivate Account'

    4. Tap on 'Continue' when the warning notification pops up.

    5. Deactivation succeeded if the screen changed to the "Welcome to Viber" screen.

Android: Contact list is not showing your friends as Viber users?

Posted by Viber Support on 31 May 2011 06:10 AM

Make sure you are using the latest version of Viber. You can download the latest version from http://www.viber.com/

Make sure that you are looking at the Viber contact list, not your device's contact list.

In order for your contacts to see you as a Viber user and be able to call you through Viber, your phone number, which is saved on their address book, must be the exact same number that you used to register to Viber and vice- versa.

Try tapping on the 'More' tab at the bottom of the Viber app, then select "Settings" and the add a check mark [] to "Show all Contacts"

Once you installed Viber, if you do not see someone in your contact list whom you know to have Viber, it might be that the list is not updated (this may be due to an unstable connection during setup, or just a slight delay). To update your contact list, re-sync it by re-initiating Viber or by manually updating your contacts list.

  • You don't need to uninstall and reinstall Viber. Shut Viber down (so that it no longer runs in the background) or turn the phone off, and then re-open it.

If this does not work, try the following steps:

    1. Send the user an invite and if the number is a registered Viber user, it will automatically update the Viber contact list.

    2. Enter into your Viber contact list, then select the device's menu button, and tap on "update contacts". Then just click your device 'home' button. Viber will run in the background. In about 30 min. to an hour, check again by clicking on the Viber icon.

    3. Confirm that you have an active internet connection.

    4. Dial a number manually, using the Viber keypad

    5. Delete the contact with the missing Viber badge from your contact list. Add it again and make sure to include the country code.

The phone number format should include the plus sign, country code, cell code and phone number. The standard format is: +(country code)-(cell code)-(phone number)

    For example: +1-555-555-5555

Egypt and the NTRA number change. How does it affect calls to Egyptian users.

Posted by Viber Support on 22 October 2011 02:11 AM

How will the change made by the Egyptian National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) update affect Viber users with Egyptian users?

Since your registered Viber telephone number acts as your Viber ID, there are several options available to you concerning the change set in place by the NTRA:

  • 1. You can leave your number as is: all of your contacts who have this number in their contacts list will still be able to contact you.

    2. You can register with Viber again under your new telephone number: If you do this, your contacts will also need to update their contact list with this new number.

    3. You can list your contacts in your contact list with two telephone numbers (the old number format and another listing with the new number format): This way, when or if your contacts register with Viber again using the new number format, you will be notified as well. A Viber badge will appear next to their new number in your contact list

and then you can delete the old number from your contact list.

Viber for Android now only partially supports two of the most

popular Android ROMs: MIUI and CyanogenMod 7 (CM7).

However, custom ROM entails many personal tweaks which

What happens if you close Viber for Android?

When you get a call, Viber will automatically open using Google's C2DM. This only applies to device running 0S 2.2+ with a Google

    account.

    Otherwise:

If Viber is not running (open), you will not receive calls or messages via Viber. This also holds true if Viber is not able to connect to the Internet. However, when you re-initiate Viber you

will receive all messages and missed call notifications.

It is best to always keep Viber running so that you never miss a call or message. Don't worry, you will see that Viber does not use

a noticeable amount of the phone's battery.

Nevertheless, we're working on a mechanisim that will allow you to receive Viber calls and messages even if your Viber is closed.
