  • SAP Lumira overview

SAP Lumira is a data manipulation, visualization, and storyboard creation tool. You can connect to oneor multiple data sources, to create datasets in which you can manipulate, cleanup, and visualize datawith a diverse offer of graphical charts and tables. You can create storyboards using the charts, addingfilters, images, and text to tell the story of how your data is changing and trending.

SAP Lumira is installed locally and can operate on either remote or local data. The charts that are builton the datasets can be saved and sent out by email. Your datasets can be published to SAP HANA,SAP Explorer, the SAP Lumira cloud, and SAP Streamwork activities.

A dataset and its charts that you create in SAP Lumira are saved in documents with the file format.SViD. This is a document that contains the data source connection information, the data definition anddata, and the visualizations.

This section contains important considerations and requirements for using SAP Lumira with the SAPHANA database.

Security requirements for publishing to SAP HANABefore users can publish content to SAP HANA, they must be assigned specific privileges and roles. These roles and privileges are also required for retrieving data from SAP HANA. Use the SAP HANAStudio application to assign user roles and privileges. For information on administrating the SAP HANAdatabase and using SAPHANAStudio see SAPHANADatabase Administration Guide. For informationon user security, see the SAP HANA Security Guide (Including SAP HANA Database Security).

The user account used to log into the HANA system from SAP Lumira must be assigned to the"MODELING" role (in HANA).

Note:This action can only be performed by a user with ROLE_ADMIN privileges on the SAP HANA database.

When an SAP Lumira user logs into the SAP HANA system, the internal _SYS_REPO account must:

Be granted the SELECT SQL Privileges. Have the Grantable to others option selected on the (SAP Lumira) user's schema.

4.6.1 To configure _SYS_REPO for the SAP Lumira user

If an account for the SAP Lumira user is already defined in the SAP HANA system:

    1. From the system connection in the SAP HANA Studio Navigator window, go to Catalog >Authorization > Users.

    2. Double-click the _SYS_REPO account.3. Under the SQL Privileges tab, click the + icon, enter the name of the user's schema, and click OK.4. Choose SELECT and the corresponding Yes under Grantable to others.

5.6 Working with SAP HANA views

SAPHANA is a database that contains data accessible as views. A view is a pre-defined virtual groupingof table columns that allows you to access data that corresponds to a specific business requirement. There are different types of views depending on the type of tables that are included, and the type ofcalculations that are applied to columns; for example, an attribute view is built on dimension tables, ananalytic view is built on both a fact table and attribute views, and a calculation view executes a functionon columns when the view is accessed.

With this version of SAP Lumira you can create charts on data available as:

    Analytic views Calculation views

You can access views in two ways:

    DescriptionAccess by

Data is retrieved can be manipulated and edited before being visualizedin charts.

    Download from SAPHANA

Data is read only and can be visualized in charts.Connect to SAP HANAOnline

Once you have connected to a view, the data is presented in columns, facets, measures, attributes, and hierarchies.

Once you have identified the measures and attributes to analyze, you build a chart by moving attributesonto a visualization space, where they are automatically graphed on a chart. You can choose from alarge range of charts, depending on the type of visualization required for your business purpose.

When you have completed the chart, you can save it in a document. The chart can individually be sentout by mail to your collaborators.

The data definition and data in the document can be exported as a flat file, or published to SAP HANA.

    5.8 Using Query with SQL

You can create your own data provider by manually entering the SQL for a target data source. Youneed to be familiar with your database and the SQL language to use Query with SQL. You can specifythe source tables, columns, and functions to acquire data. Refer to the SAP Product AvailabilityMatrix(PAM) for information on the database middleware supported by Query with SQL. From the PAMhome page, type Lumira to access the SAP Lumira page.

Using Query with SQL requires that the correct data access driver is installed for your databasemiddleware. A data access driver is the software provided by a database vendor that allows a clientapplication to connect to the middleware and access the data in the database. The data access driverfor your middleware must be copied from your database vendor support website to a local folder. FromSAP Lumira you can then browse to and select the driver to connect to the database. SAP Lumiraprovides a guide to choose and install your data access driver from the SQL Drivers tab in thePreferences dialog box.

  • Preparing data

7.1 Preparing your data before charting

The data in the Prepare tab is raw data so it is not often formatted consistently, and is not easilyinterpreted by business users. Before creating the charts to visualize your data, it is often necessaryto clean up the data so it is presentable and understandable.

Cleaning data can be done in Grid or Facet view. You use a data editing panel to the right of the Datapanel to do column management tasks, for example; column duplication, splitting, and removal. Youcan also carry out row level editing tasks, for example; setting values to lowercase, find and replace, adding or trimming text, and adding formulas.

Editing tasks can be applied to all values in a column or to selected values.
