A Message from the President

Dear Sponsors, Donors and Readers

I am very happy to reach you through vgf

time’s magazine. I am extremely happy to

launch our VGF Times quarterly e-

Magazine to give you up-to date,

information and development of our

projects. With limited resource we are

able to give you the latest development of

Vivegamgodfrey project’s Day Care

Centre for children, and Old Age Home

for the needy elderly persons. Within two

years, the VGF has made international

link with Europe, US and Australia.

We are also listed in United Nations

NGOs as well as Indian Government

recognised NGO groups. With the help of

God and the support of sponsors and other

funding sources, we will soon achieve our

goals to make a great impact in our

society. We are also trying to eradicate

the evil caste system in the minds of our

project children and our old age persons.

The VGF Times will give you historical

information’s of VGF and surroundings

villages. I assure you; our future

magazine will explore the village culture

and the indigenous people of this area.

Moreover this magazine will give you

added information about the relationship

between VGF and Leipzig city in

Germany. In future it will explore our

relationship not only with Germany but

also other parts of world.

I strongly believe, this magazine will soon

become the best NGO magazine in India.

Thank you Edwin Prabu Kumar

Kids of VGF

VGF children are

involved in various ways

in VGF project. Of course

not only do they have

further studies, but they

also play more. After a

Sunday lunch provided

by the mission, the

children play volleyball.

As you can see in these

photos the children play

barefoot. This is not

unusual in the village

and it is our desire to

provide not only a pair

each of sport and school

shoes but also a new

outfit, as these children

traditionally only

receives clothes once at

Christmas.

“Lord's Day”

Every Sunday,

Children learn their

moral and spiritual

lessons, including

songs, through our

teachers and

volunteers. Even

though all have come

from other religious

backgrounds, they

love the Bible

teachings, songs, and

prayer.

VGF eagerly look for volunteers to use musical equipments in

our singing times, and also hoping to teach our children how

to play instruments. For example, Piano, Guitar, Singing and

harmonizing----

--so that they may have the same opportunities as other

children and possibly one day go on with music studies to

attain international professional standards .

Plants of vgf

VGF farm have eight Neem trees and one

Palm tree. Which, it has inherited

naturally. It has 28 coconut trees, which

are planted by the parents of the founder.

These coconut trees are more than 20

years old. Along with international

volunteers and our project Children, we

have planted 31 new coconuts trees, six

pomegranate plants, eight Mango trees, 15

Supporta fruit plants and five Guava trees.

We are also trying to plant some

vegetables, which will be useful for the

children’s daily food. Apart from these

plants we planted some of the Crotons and

Areca Palms and 62 yellow Durantas, to

beautify the project.

VGF future self-supportive program-of

Rabbit farm is on the progress. The high

protein plants to feed the rabbits are

growing well. These will supply enough

green food for the rabbits.

VGF is looking for some more financial

support to make Rabbit cages and fencing

for eastern side of the project border.

Rabbit farm is one of the low investments,

risk free projects and also requires less

space and labour.

Soon VGF will start a separate magazine

for Farm project in which more detailed

information about soon to be self

sustaining Rabbit farm will be given for our

readers.

Times of Danishpet

Danishpet is one of the oldest villages in

Kadayampatti Panchayat, in Omalur Taluk

and Salem district of Tamil Nadu in India.

The name “Danishpet” is living witness for

the Indio Danish relationship. The Danishpet

Railway Station made the village much

more popularity in India. The Danish

Missionary Rev. Morten Bonneland Andersen

(1861-1931) with his wife Ellen Barbara

D’Abreu (1863-1932) (who was one of the

first three lady doctors in India) settled

there in about 1890, in small thatched huts.

His service for these remote villages

impressed the British government in India;

it was the reason, Kadayampatti Railway

station was re-named “Danishpet” Railway

station in order to honour the first Danish

Missionary in this small village. From 19th

century onwards, the regular visits and the

permanent stay of the Danish missionaries

and their large acquirements of land in

these areas, was yet another reason to be

named Danishpet.

The village Danishpet is situated in lower areas of

Servarayan hills and near to Yercaud hills, which is a

well known tourist station. The local Tamil name for

this hill comes from a local deity, Servarayan, which

means Chera King.

Danishpet itself consist of 11 small villages like

Andikottai, ( ) Valaiyanththoopu,

( ) Irulapatti, ( )

Rajamannar Kadu, ( ) Bethel colony,

( ) Veithaipannai, ( )

Varthakavandanur, ( ) Molakartour,

( ) Aauthour ( ) and Kanchary

( ).

Indigenous people from

Varthakavandanur, Molakartour and

Aauthour are yet another historical

Malayali community in Danishpet. I

will write detailed history about their

culture in the next publication.

Agriculture is the main

sources of income for these

people. Crops such as Paddy,

sugarcane, Sago plant,

coconut palms and other

local vegetables are the

major agricultural produce

from these area activities.

Even though; Danishpet had

strong influences from Danish

missionaries and other Europeans,

the dehumanizing evil caste

system is still openly practiced

among the village people.

The organization of Bethel

Agricultural Fellowship,

Anderson School and CSI

Anderson Church are well

known centers in the

village.

At less than three years old,

Vivegamgodfrey Old Age Home and Day

Care Center are yet other historical

developments in this village. The

Vivegamgodfrey trust has nine different

village children’s in its Day Care Center

project. From its beginnings, the project

has taken precaution and serious effort to

practice cast-less society among these

young hearts and elderly persons.

Heavenly shelter

VGF second major project is our old age

home. This will be in three different

groups of homes. The first one will be an

Old Age home for Missionaries and

Pastors. This will help the retired

missionaries and pastors who do not

have any support in life. They can stay

in our project rest of their life. This will

be a great challenge for us. Moreover;

this is first free old age home for the

missionaries in India. Retuning

missionaries often have no family or

children that can take on the role of

carers. We feel it is our duty to care for

them.

The second group of old age home is for

the poor, needy orphans and neglected

old age persons, VGF will accommodate

and give care for them. With both of

these groups, VGF will provide a

respectful funeral also.

The third group will be Paid old age

home for the NRI children’s parents and

other old age persons, who want to pay

and stay in our project. The

accommodations will be monthly and

yearly. The income from this will support

the first two groups.

VGF desire is to provide heavenly peace

and joy for our old age persons in our

camps.

Free Medical camps

In the last two years VGF was able to conduct two free eye camps for the

surrounding village people. The third camp was a free multi- speciality

medical camp like, Eye, ENT and Orthopaedics. These medical camps

provided more than 500 people with medical check-ups and 31 people had free

eye surgery and four had knee replacement surgery.

Beyond the border

VGF was able to accommodate five international volunteers within three years. The vgf children

enjoyed the international volunteer’s presence and it was great exposure of the differences of other

cultures between the volunteers and our children. Some of the volunteers remarkably made a great

impact among the children in the areas like learning, playing, cleanliness, and improving their talents.

http://www.facebook.com/Vivegamgodfrey

WWW.vivegamgodfrey.org [email protected]

It was great opportunity for the children

to have international exposure with

volunteers, this will help them to improve

their knowledge and encourage them to

build their future with globalizing growing

competition. Many of our children were so

saddened to tears to see our volunteers leave

from home again.

Table Tennis is new unknown and

unseen game for the village children.

Most of the village children had not

even heard about Table Tennis.

Because of our international

volunteers, vgf children are now

playing Table Tennis and it has

become part of their daily games.

Besides the great impact on the children, the volunteers also learned the local culture, some language

and enjoyed the quiet and calm nature of Danishpet and also the cuisine from this region being made

from local fruits and vegetables.

A message from the Vice President

gesorgt.

True Way Trust e.V. was founded in Leipzig as a … to

support the efforts of the project Vivegam Godfrey in

India. Support includes financial support through fund-

raising and also spiritual support for our colleagues in

India. We make our plans together to support the children

and to further grow the project. The main objective for

these programmes is to support the children in their

efforts to learn and to give them a new and wider

perspective in life based on biblical values.

What we did in the last few months:

Grassi Festival

The Grassi Museum in Leipzig celebrates Grassi

Festival every year on the 9th of September on its

premises. This year, we were able to acquire a small

stand at this festival. Our little stall was directly

beside the stage. That provided us with great music

throughout the whole celebration. Mercy brought

with her jewellery and clothes from India, Romy her

almost-professional painting skills in Mehendi and

everyone was offered chai. It was a pleasant day with

lots of sun and offered a great opportunity to

introduce our project to those who did not know it.

South Indian Evening

Jedes Jahr im Herbst finden in Leipzig bzw. in ganz

Deutschland die Interkulturellen Wochen statt. Hintergrund

Intercultural weeks are organized in Leipzig and

throughout Germany every autumn. The goal is to

encourage a better understanding of the different ethnic

groups now living in Germany. We were able to organize

the first South Indian Evening on the 29th of September in

the church hall of the Church of St. Thomas (Thomaskirche)

in Matthäi-Haus. We were able to provide authentic South

Indian cuisine from different South Indian states. Dosas,

coconut and tomato chutneys, chappatis and lime rice

besides many other sumptuous dishes guaranteed smiling

faces throughout the whole evening.

Edwin gave a very interesting lecture on the intercultural

relationships through history between South India and

Germany. Another fascinating lecture on the South Indian

state of Kerela was provided by Vinod. Dhotis and sarees

were provided for anyone who wanted to take a picture in

traditional South Indian clothes. Mercy conducted a mini

cooking course on making dosais and henna painting

sessions were selling like hot cakes. It was an enjoyable

evening with good music and constructive conversations.

Es grüßt Sie herzlichst

André Lim-Richter

Vorsitzender True Way Trust e.V.

besuchten ja letztes Jahr unseren Projektort in

I would now like to take a little moment to share

our experience at the project in 2011. My wife

and I (and our little daughter Eleanor, who was

herself still in mummy’s tummy) journeyed to the

project for two weeks in the summer of 2011 to

make ourselves acquainted with the project, our

colleagues and most importantly with the

children in the project. We can only be thankful

whenever we think of the time we spent there

with the children, our two lovely cooks and all our

colleagues there. It was very difficult for us to say

goodbye, though our visit there was so short. We

look forward to visiting again and are very excited

to see how our children have grown, physically

and mentally.
