Rigorous inspection and analysis, complete maintenance programs, new part manufacture and full retrofit

Getting to know you and your generatorsNo two generators are identical. The

same applies to operator needs. Our

first task, therefore, is to assess your

generator history and identify your

specific requirements. Our speciality

is ASEA/ABB generators, but we are

equally at home with equipment from

any other manufacturer. We then give

you the full picture and discuss the

best way to move forward. We keep

you fully informed of what is needed,

what effect it will have, and what it

will cost. Our aim is always on-site

service with minimum disruption.

Preventive and corrective maintenance servicesDiagnostics form the basis of service.

For example, high partial discharge

(PD) activities in generator stator

slots revealed during off-line

diagnosis suggest a need for corona

protection repair and slot filling.

Couplers for on-line PD monitoring

can then be installed and a periodic

measurement program initiated.

Similarly, if root cause investigation

verifies that cracks detected in rotor

slot wedges are due to stress

corrosion, new wedges can quickly

be installed from our stock of

strategic spares.

A generator has around one hundred different modes of failure, one third of them in the rotor. We have every one under the microscope.

Retrofit and new component manufacture VG Power Turbo enjoys fruitful

cooperation with a number of

strategic partners specializing in

stator manufacture, rewinding and

core stacking as well as rotor

machining, balancing and winding.

This gives us access to everything

from new component spare parts to

complete generators. Rewinding

parallel slotted rotors on ASEA/ABB

GTP generators is a typical retrofit

procedure performed as part of a

lifetime extension program. At the

same time, extra ventilation channels

can be made in the shaft ends to

improve the cooling of the rotor body

end region.
