Hey Vette Setters—
Celebrating our 50th year, The Vette Set Inc. is certainly alive and well, with many events lined up over the next few months to encourage us to enjoy our Corvette ownership. The kick off was our Awards Banquet, made special with several golden touches for our anniversary, as well as attendance by several members from the early days of Vette Setting. It was an enjoyable evening, and all attendees took home a wine glass commemorating the occasion. A special Thank You goes to Jan Jeffreys for all her work to make it such a success.
We have several runs planned, starting with the run to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library February 12, and the annual Vette Set Sweetheart Run on Valentine's Day. That always promises exploring new sights locally, some challenging puzzles, and a fun lunch and party afterward. A Show and Shine run follows later this month, as well as trips to the Bower's Museum, and the Automobile Driving Museum. In March there's the Lyon Air Museum, followed by our own 40th Annual Car Show in April.
Carl and Karen Cewinski are leading a special 50th Anniversary event, a Tour all the way to the National Corvette Museum and factory in Bowling Green KY, in late April and May.
So we have a lot going on, and that's only the first five months! It promises to be a great year to enjoy your Club and your Corvette!

NAME BADGE DRAWING
50-50 DRAWING The 50/50 collection was $130 this month. Thanks to another TVS guest, Chuck Gueraro, who pulled the winning ticket of Pat Cowley. Pat won $65 this month, while the Club received $65. However, back in July and May 2014, Sharon Cowley respectively won $75 each time.
Congratulations to Pat Cowley.

RAFFLE
Rosie
Harry Barnett, a TVS guest, pulled the lucky name badge of Darlene Ockerman for $80; however, she was not present to win. Back in February 2014 Darlene could have won $10 but was not present to win. Also, back in September 2014, her husband, Jerry’s, name badge had been pulled for $30 but was not present to win. The Ockerman’s have been lucky, but at the same time unlucky! Next month's drawing will be $90!!
4
Editor’s Note: Last month, one of the following paragraphs was inadvertently omitted from the Gazette. In an effort to keep peace in the Vette Set family , it is shown in its entirety as Rosie intended:
“The name badge drawing for this month was $70. Since Ken Fullenwider was not present to win, therefore, next month’s amount will be a BIG $80 for a lucky Corvette member.
Wow, congratulations to Jeanette Weimer for winning the 50/50 raffle collection of $72, while the Club received $73. As I was approaching Lee Feher, (he and his wife, Diane, joined the Club this month), Jeanette’s husband, Rob, commented to Jeanette that “he (Lee) better be drawing Jeanette’s ticket.” What’s the odds of this happening????!!! Well, thanks to Lee, Jeanette won!!!
Do you remember what I said in last month’s newsletter? Here’s the excerpt from last month - “As I was going to the back of the meeting area to ask Kurt Swanson (who BTW he and his wife, Stella, have joined the Club) to pull the lucky ticket, Rob Weimer “mouthed” to Ron Knight who was sitting in the front row that he (Rob) wanted to win. Well, thanks to Kurt’s magic hand, Kurt pulled Rob’s ticket and Rob won $77 while the Club received $78. The last time that Rob won was 5/13 and received $82; while his wife, Jeanette, won on 3/14 $75….
The Weimers’ are on a lucky streak! Well, congratulations to Jeanette!”

Our Car Show April 5, 2014 is coming along very well. Our 50th Anniversary will be celebrated at our Car Show with a tee shirt designed by the same artist that designs the Ruby’s tee. You can see the back design on our Car Show flyer in the newsletter and on our web site. Each pre-registered entrant will receive a shirt. And all volunteers signing up to work our Show will receive one.
Also, our 50th will be noted at the Show by “50 for our 50th”. 50 trophies will be awarded. You can sponsor a trophy for $25 which will then have your name/dedication on the plaque as the sponsor. If you, your neighbor, or business wish to sponsor a trophy please let Chuck Hammer know ASAP.
Linda Glaza sent out invitations to potential sponsors in December/January and we are receiving many raffle/silent auctions prizes. Most will come in March. Don Popovich, Chuck Hammer and Bonniegay Bacon have been advertising our Show with advertisements and flyers at car shows. We have a banner ad in www.socalcarculture.com, visit their site for a look. Rob Weimer has been contacting potential vendors. The National Corvette Museum store will be with us again under the direction of George Person.
Santiago Chavez has volunteered to coordinate chairs, tables and pop-ups. If you can loan the Car Show any tables or pop-ups, please let him know. Chairs will come from ours at WIN.
Linda Tully has been distributing raffle coupons. If you need more please contact her. Our raffle is a highlight of our Show. Prizes from sponsors and club members draw interest from all Car Show participants. It not only raises funds for our charity but gives the Car Show participants another focus in anticipation of award.
Please bring your raffle/silent auction donation to the March meeting.
We are beginning the list of volunteers for working the Car Show. If you would like to help and get a Show tee shirt please let us know. Those who volunteered at the Feb. general meeting do not need to re-sign up. However, those who signed up for early site preparation or parking can help by doing double coverage with a later volunteer need. Judging has been considerably simplified this year so don’t be afraid to help. We need volunteers for the following (leads are listed):

2015 SWEETHEART RALLEY, FEBRUARY 14 – Revised Meeting Location (See Flyer)
This year's Sweetheart Ralley will be a gimmick run through a unique Los Angeles seaside area. Likely few have seen this area recently, we certainly hadn't. The gimmick will be finding specific answers to clues as you drive. We will try to make the clues and answers straight forward so no one gets frustrated, too much. The main idea of the run is to enjoy your Corvette, the route, then the gimmicks, in that order. At end of the run you will be at the Tully's to enjoy lunch and the comradery of Corvette friends.
Cost of the Ralley is $15 per person, which includes your food and ralley prizes. It is BYOB for those who wish. Water and some sodas will be provided.
For any questions please call Linda (310-378-4062) or Toni (310-410-0397).

AWARDS BANQUET PORTS-OF-CALL RESTAURANT SATURDAY JAN 31, 2015
Before dinner everyone enjoyed drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
Jan Jeffrys chaired the annual awards banquet and music was supplied by Joe Lubinski of Soundwaves West. This year was special because it occurred on the 50th anniversary of the club. Wine was served with dinner in special 50th Anniversary Vette Set wine glasses.

Dining. Everyone was seated in the room with two large windows and views of the waterway as shown below. Well actually, this is the photo from last year. The assistant photographer was seated at the table in the far corner and didn’t retake this shot because of a sore knee. Oh well, maybe next year.

Center Table. Early club members were invited to this event and were seated at the center table. They told stories of the early days when the club had their car shows at Champion Chevrolet on Sepulveda in Manhattan Beach. One was driving a dragster down Sepulveda during one of their car shows. But it was good to learn that they behaved responsibly by blocking off access roads to Sepulveda.
2014 Appointees were honored… …and 2015 Appointees were welcomed
Out with the Old and In with the New. The worker bees from 2014 were thanked and the 2015 replacements were introduced. For the most part, the two groups were the same which means they all must enjoy their jobs or they couldn’t find replacements. In the case of the club president, Jerry Clement replaced Santiago Chavez who replaced Jerry the year before. I wonder who will be president in 2016?

Past presidents were thanked
Our banquet room at Ports O’Call was
fantastic. There were two walls of glass
looking out onto the channel. Jan had
arranged for appetizers, ice tea and
Margaritas. There were 60 members in
attendance. Everyone was dressed for
the occasion. Dinner was delicious; I
heard many positive remarks from diners.
Everyone thought the table centerpieces
were great. They were made by Jan
Jeffreys. Since 1991, Fred DeVries had
made the centerpieces. This year, he
retired from that position. Jan thanked
Fred for all of his creations and our club
appreciates all of his work and
contributions as well. THANKS FRED!

Annual Awards. The by-laws specify annual awards to be given. For 2014, these awards and the recipients are: 1. Bert Pierce Memorial Participation Award, Linda & John Tully; 2. Hard Luck Award, George Person; and 3. Glen Childs Perpetual Memorial Award—Member of the Year, George Person.
Summary. This was a very nice Awards Banquet. The program moved swiftly and was entertaining. Although we didn’t have Fred DeVries’ custom table centerpieces (Fred retired from this task last year), the tables were beautifully set and contained Vette Set wine glasses for all attendees. Thank you Jan Jeffreys, Linda and John Tully for a fantastic evening.
