VET in Sports Academy

• Savo Vocational College is one of the eleven colleges in Finland authorized by the Ministry of Education to provide vocational education and training for sports people

• The aim is to organize the studies leading to vocational qualifications to make it possible for the student to proceed in studies as well as train and participate in sports competitions.

VET in Sports Academy

• The athletes enrolled in Sports Academy score high in their own national age group.

• The main aim is to provide the athletes with high quality coaching and training possibilities.

• The students can attend coaching and professional training twice a day.

Team and Individual Sports

• Ice-hockey, soccer, volleyball, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined, track and field, swimmimg and floorball.

• Individual sports include e.g.

steeplechase and ballroom dancing.

• The coaches have authorization from the national leagues.

• The athlete students may include six hours of training in their school-week .

(adult national team)

• Teemu Hartikainen (business), icehockey (KalPa team player, national league)

• Aleksi Kumpulainen (HEPAC), snowboarding,( adult FI champion,silver medal)

• Henri Väätäinen (construction), soccer,(FI champion, national team)

Managing school work

• The athlete students are expected to accomplish all modules included in the study programme.

• The athlete´s curriculum may include altogether 14 credits of

extra-curricular activities and training for sports.
