1 Introduction

Handelsbanken’s implementation guidelines will describe the contents of cross-border payments based on

EDIFACT PAYMUL-format. In the first part of the document you will find a description of the format,

after the format description you will find country specific information.

It is currently possible to make cross-border payments in Handelsbanken:

China Great Britain Norway

Denmark Hong Kong Poland

Estonia Latvia Singapore

Finland Lithuania Sweden

France Luxembourg USA

Germany Netherlands Other banks

Payments can also be made from accounts held with other banks. The service is based on Handelsbanken

having an agreement with the account holding bank in order to execute payments. Please contact your

debtor agent for information regarding how to state your debtor account.

All component services within outgoing payments must have a separate agreement with the Bank.

This description is unique for Handelsbanken´s services and can therefore only be used in cooperation with

Handelsbanken.

The structure and character sets of the EDIFACT messages are described in the Bankers’ Association’s

Service Segments. Handelsbanken uses the ISO 8859-1:1987 character set for the syntax.

More information about cross-border payments can be obtained from your local branch office.

1.3 History

At Handelsbanken, changes to version numbers are made according to the following guidelines. The

original version is 1.0.0

The last digit is changed when the format descriptions are changed, for example text clarifications

and examples.

The second digit is changed if minor changes are made to the format such as new countries or

changes in the payment type.

The first digit is changed (thus becoming a completely new version) if the format changes mean

that the customer will have to make adaptations in order to continue using the service. In this case,

all customers affected are informed of the new version and what the changes involve.

2 Implementation guidelines

Payment date/Execution date

Payment date can be stated for a maximum of 12 months ahead.

Payment date can be exceeded with a maximum of 20 days. Then the payment will be executed the

following business day. If execution date is exceeded with more than 20 days the payment will be rejected.

Credit notes

The EDIFACT PAYMUL-format doesn’t as standard handle credit notes. An invoice must be manually

netted against a credit note, with the net amount in E001 MOA SG11 being sent to the beneficiary. Invoice

references can be entered in F003 DOC SG17 using code 381 in F004. Credit note references can be entered

in F003 DOC SG17 using code 381 in F004.

2.1 Set-up guidelines

The description is based on the application instructions produced by the Swedish banks within the

framework of Swedish Bankers’ Association. These application instructions are available in Swedish

Bankers’ Association Manual on http://www.swedishbankers.se. There the business transaction payment

orders regarding information content and structure are described along with directions for how the

information should be placed in an EDIFACT PAYMUL message from the directory version D96.A.rev

2003-04-15. To use this format description it must therefore be used in parallel with the Bankers’

Association’s application instructions.

The implementation instructions describe the information content sorted in numerical order for the business

terms included in the payment order business transaction in the Bankers’ Association’s documentation.

Beside each business term there is also a reference to the current data element in the EDIFACT PAYMUL

message. The idea is that it should be possible to use the format description in parallel with both the

payment orders business transaction for the company’s information analysis, and with the message

application for the EDIFACT PAYMUL message for implementation in the company’s system.
