VAHS Youth Apprentice Student of Month Annalyse Shipley Grade 12

Youth Apprentice – Certified Nursing

Assistant Program

Annalyse plans on attending Madison College in the

Liberal Arts Transfer Program and then transferring

to a UW school to complete her degree nursing. Her

career goal is to become a Nurse Anesthetist.

Annaylse is the first generation in her family to

attend college. Go Annalyse!

What got you interested in the Youth Apprentice program?

Last year I saw a presentation about Youth Apprentice in English class. I knew I wanted to work in

the healthcare field and I thought the program would be a great opportunity to get that kick-

started.

Where you working and what are are your job duties? Or where would you like to

work?

Last summer I completed the Nursing Assistant program at Madison College and this fall passed the

Wisconsin Nurse Aide Competency test. I am currently applying for CNA positions and would love to

work at UW Hospital.

What are some of your favorite classes at VAHS?

My favorite classes at VAHS have been Spanish (I’m in Spanish 5). I also enjoyed Medical

Occupations, Medical Terminology, and English.

What is your dream job?

Nurse Anesthetist

What are some of your hobbies outside of school?

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

What do you like most about being a Youth Apprentice?

I like that I am in charge of myself and my career path. I have the freedom to choose where I want

to work, and the opportunity to take additional nursing classes at Madison College. Youth

Apprenticeship gave me the resources and help I needed to get started down my chosen career

path.

Scheduling Reminders

Starting January 24th, students will begin

getting information about scheduling for next

year’s classes. Students will receive a course

request card along with a course prospectus (a

document explaining all courses offered at

VAHS). Students should bring this information

home to discuss class options with parents/

guardians. Each student will fill out their

course request form, enter their class requests

online in PowerSchool and then turn in their

course request form to their 2nd hour teacher

on or before Friday, February 14th. Students

who have specific questions about class options

for next year can either talk to their current

teacher in that subject area and/or schedule a

meeting to meet with their counselor.

The teachers from each academic department

will be creating informational videos about

course offerings that will be shared with

students. The videos will also be available on

the VAHS website under the Student Services

Tab.

VAHS THEATRE

Presents

Freckleface Strawberry

The Musical

Based on the book by Julianne Moore, VAHS Theatre Arts will present Freckleface Strawberry on March 7-9, 2014 in the VAHS Performing Arts Center.

Freckleface Strawberry was just like every other girl, except for one thing…she had freckles everywhere! Freckleface Strawberry will do anything to get rid of her freckles – from scrubbing them with soap, to caking on makeup, and even wearing a ski mask to school! Will her schoolmates realize it's her under the mask? Will Freckleface be brave enough to finally face her complexion in the mirror? With the help of her loveable schoolmates including an amazingly talented ballerina, a cutie jock, a charming ditz, and a totally kooky teacher, Freckleface learns that everyone is different - and that's what makes everyone special! With fun music, awesome dancing… and a freckleface full of laughs, your whole family will love this brand new musical for all ages . . . freckles or not!

The VAHS Theatre production will feature a talented cast of veteran performers and new faces to the VAHS stage. The cast features Natalie Long in the title role. Joining her onstage in the ensemble is Alex Roller, Max Luke, Randy Kessenich, Elise Everitt, Frost White, Enya Joyner, Cassidy Slinger, Rylie Butzbaugh, Makena Meyers, Erin Bormett, Molly Kempfer, Thomas Endter, Zoe Hansen, Maggie Ferguson, Cierrah Stampfli, Jenine Ybanez, Mary Schroeder, and SheldonWood. Harry Ireland will stage manage and Mariah Braier will choreograph.

Tickets for the production are $5.00 and can be obtained by calling the VAHS Theatre box office at 845-4488.

The Senior Show continues until February 7th. Help

celebrate our students’work! Beginning February 17

through March 22 the Sugar River Gallery will be hosting

the "Ring of Fire", a show focusing on the work of artists

that fire wood kilns in the area surrounding Madison. This

show is part of the locally produced shows in conjunction

with NCECA (the National Council on Education in the Ceramic Arts) conference in Milwaukee

from March 19-22. The closing reception will be March 22 from 5 - 7 PM.

The Sugar River Gallery is open during regular school hours.
