Look Out For The ' Potato Ca.~~

mBE NEWFOUNDLAND AGRICULTURAL BOARD l. baa UC4'.rtained that certain plots of potatoes ia the neighbourhood of St. Joha'a are af.'ected by the dreaded "Potato Canker'' disease.

This ia the aame disease that was first detected at Red Ialaad, in Placeatia Bay, about a year ago and is so fatal ia ita effects that if not immediately checked the absolute impossibility of growing potatoes in Newfound· land for yean to come, is sure to result.

.«he Agricultural Board, therefore, requests that aU ~ polatO growers who may observe indications of disease LD their crop, will at once aotify the Secretary of the Agricultural Board at the office of the Deparlulent of Agrieulture aad Mines.

The Agrid.thlral Board, ro..-cogniziug th.e i.a~culable injury that must accrue to the country 1£ th1S dl. ease be oot immediatcly stamped out, earnestly requests all persons to aid the efforts now about to be made to eftect this. •

Ia Febrfiary last the Agricultural Board issued au illustra.ted pam~~et from a spedal report by P!of~r Gussow oa this~ Some tbouaaads of cop1es were seat to Outport Magistrates and Clerg, ymca and the Board now requests that potato g:rowers tn any atf~ted Districts will procure a copy of thts report and be gutded by its recommeadatioas.

By order,

FRANK H. SIMMS, Secretary Newfoundland Agricultural Board.
