A verbal noun that always ends in –ing

It’s used in every way a noun can be used

Subject

Direct Object

Indirect Object

Possessive Noun

Possessive Adjective

Can have an object

Can be modified by adverbs or prepositional phrases

Gerund with all of it’s modifiers is a Gerund Phrase

Gerund Phrase starts with the Gerund and goes until a verb or punctuation

Gerund Phrases always function as nouns

Winning the tournament was a life long dream of mine.

In a moment Lennie came crashing through the brush.
