Verb+infinitive verbs that are followed by to and infinitive

StructureSubject + Verb + to infinitiveEx: I started to work here in 1994.

I want to speak to the manager.

• The common verbs followed by the to-infinitive are- help, try, want, love, agree, etc.

Verbs are followed by a noun and then to infinitive

Structure: Subject + Verb + noun + to infinitiveEx: She told him to go home.

• The common verbs with this pattern are• tell, ask, get, want ,etc.

Used “to” after some adjectiveEx: It’s impossible to save money.

The to-infinitive as a subject of the sentence

- Ex:To visit the Grand Canyon is my life-long dream.

“To” followed by object  structure : Subject + Verb + object + to infinitive

Ex: He told me to give this to you.

Some verbs are followed by object + infinitive without “to” .• Ex:  let, make, see, hear, feel, etc.

I heard her sing a lovely song.

Negative form Used do not / don’t + infinitive without “to”.

Ex: Do not make a noise.

Put “not” before “to”Ex: He asked me not to be late.

• The verb can followed by a question word such as where, how, what, who, and when + the to-infinitive.Ex: She asked me how to use the washing

machine.

the full infinitive if it is understood from the conversationEx: A: I hope they'll bring the key

and as verbal noun

☻ Running , Eating , Making

Use as the subject of the sentence

☻ Playing tennis with Jane makes me enjoy so much.
