With warm weather finally in place, outdoor activities are on our minds more and more. One such activity (some call it a sport) is golf, and New Jersey offers an abundance of public courses. In this month’s main editorial, our writers offer you a description of 10 of the state’s top public courses plus a listing of some of the most popular local courses open to all. Enjoy the read then “hit ‘em straight.” The “neighborhood” bar may be a thing of the past in some towns but not in Keansburg where Jackie Keelen’s Bar & Grill has been a staple for over half a century. The bar & grill has been providing great food, entertainment, and a comfortable atmosphere for friends to gather for over 52 years. Read more in this issue’s Restaurant Profile. “Playing songs people forgot they love” is the motto for the Monmouth County-based band Misfit Johnny. For more than three years, this four-man cover band has entertained New Jersey with their unique and non-conforming playlist by choosing songs that people no longer hear at the bars or clubs. How refreshing! Check out this issue’s Band Profile.

Not many people today can say they’ve worked for a quarter of a century in the same job. Beth Wilner is one who can. This veteran bartender, who now tends bar at the Brass Rail in Matawan, began her bartending career at the age of 18 and has enjoyed her “career” ever since. Learn more about Beth, this issue’s Mixologist-of-the-Month. This time of year, few things that go together better than a hot summer day and an ice cold beer. But with today’s vast selection, which one should you choose? Let our “Bill The Brewer” help you decide. Got to this issue’s “All That’s Beer” to find out.

From a small town Pennsylvania, to standup comedy, TV and videos! How did all this happen to Adam Lucidi? Read Steve O’s Comic Relief feature and find out. That’s it folks. There’s so much out there for you to enjoy. Get out and do so.

The “neighborhood” bar may be a thing of the past in some towns but not in Keansburg where Jackie Keelen’s Bar & Grill has been a staple for over half a century.

The bar & grill has been providing great food, entertainment, and a comfortable atmosphere for friends to gather for over 52 years.

The eatery, purchased in 1964 by the late Jack Keelen, has withstood the test of time having served countless local cus-tomers for years. And today, children and grandchildren of Keelen’s original patrons have made their way to this bar & grill just the way their grandparents and parents did decades before.

While currently owned by Jack’s daughters Deborah & Susan, Joshua Keelen, grandson of Jack Keelen, serves Jackie Keelen’s Bar & Grill as general manager and runs the business with his cousin and co-manager Patrick Keelen.

The business has gone through various changes over the years but has been run by the Keelen family since 1964. The latest changes include renova-tion of the interior, including the bar, dining area and bathrooms, and the walls, ceiling and flooring in the upstairs banquet room.

An outdoor dining area for patrons is slated to be com-pleted in July for guests to enjoy.

Keelen said after his grandfather passed away in 1991, his dad, Jack, gradually scaled back cooking meals and stopped serving food shortly after that. Jack passed away six years ago. About a year ago Joshua and Patrick decided to bring back serving food and brought in top notch chef, family friend and Johnson &Wales graduate, Stacy Schulte.

It seems to be working beautifully with a wonderful menu of tempting dishes being served on a daily basis.

“Most of our employees are my family or friends,” Keelen said of the fam-ily-owned-and-operated business, which has been a comfortable venue for folks to relax, enjoy great food, conversation with friends and sports TV viewing. On Saturday nights enjoy live entertainment.

The establishment is the epitome of the phrase “neighbor-hood bar,” according to Keelen.

“Everyone gets along here,” he said. “It’s almost like Cheers. We are one of the oldest places in town. It’s a comfortable Irish Sports Pub with 19, 50 inch TVs, vid-eo games, beer pong and karaoke.”

The cozy seating is arranged around the bar, which Keelen said is “huge.”

Keelen, who grew up in the bar said since he was “knee high” to the bar stool he was always doing something in the place.

The food here is hearty and patrons may be surprised by the large portions they receive.

“All our meals are huge,” Keelen said. “In my family, we always cook big meals. If I’m going to sit down and eat, I want to make sure I leave full.”

Every neighborhood bar and grill has its favorite dishes and Keelen’s is no exception.

Try the popular “Big Jack burger.” Named after Joshua Keelen’s dad, Jackie, this 9-ounce hand-crafted burger offers Monterey

Jack and cheddar cheeses, homemade Jack Daniel’s BBQ sauce, a fried egg, onion rings, lettuce, tomato, onion and

is served on a Brioche bun.

Other specialties include “Fish and Chips,” home-made house beer batter Cod which is served with French fries.

Also popular is the “Reuben” with rye bread, corned beef, sauer-kraut and Russian dressing. Crisp tasty salads are also readily avail-

able, including the “Asian Salad,” with Romaine lettuce, carrots, red onions, red peppers, cucumbers, scallions, cilantro, Mandarin oranges,

tortilla chips, sesame, peanuts and chicken.

Other favorites include the “Wacker,” named after Pat Keelen, which offers cool ranch Doritos-breaded chicken breasts, lettuce, tomatoes, on-ions, cheddar cheese, Sriracha ranch dressing and served on a Brioche bun. Try the “Big Ben,” a triple decker grilled cheese with sirloin steak, peppers, onions, and mushrooms served on Texas toast or the “Homewrecker,” a 12-inch long all-beef hot dog topped with chili, cheese sauce, diced red onions, peppers and jalapenos served on a Hoagie roll.

The beautiful redesigned upstairs banquet hall with its tongue in grove walls and ceilings, Berber rugs and TVs, ac-commodates 125 guests and is the perfect venue for weddings, holiday or special occasion parties. The eatery also has a liquor store on premises to serve patrons and will also deliver food.

Visit the bar & grill on Monday night for Nine Ball League or Tuesday for a Pool Tournament. Wednesday night offers Karaoke and Beer Pong on

Thursday. Patrons will enjoy live entertainment with classic rock bands from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturdays.

Sunday offers Karaoke as well as viewing of NFL ticket and NHL Center Ice events in season.

Over 60 different assorted alcohols, including craft beers, IPAs and lagers are served here, in addition to Mi-

mosas on weekends. Come down to the bar & grill for the Annual Sum-

mer Bash on July 30th at 4 p.m. Enjoy our Pig Roast, along with give-a-ways, drink specials and the Budweiser Fire Truck. Check

Facebook for event details.

For great food, a comfortable, fun, upbeat atmosphere visit Keelen’s Bar & Grill and join those who have been frequenting this eatery for over half a

century.

“Playing songs people forgot they love” is the motto for the Monmouth County-based band Misfit Johnny. For more than three years, this four-man cover band has entertained New Jersey with their unique and nonconforming playlist by choosing songs that people no longer hear at the bars or clubs. How refreshing!

The band’s name, Misfit Johnny, is in of itself original. It’s not taken from a song or a clever adaptation of the band’s musical influence. John Garofalo, one of the founders of the band, recalls “finding a band name that is truly original is quite the challenge. “I remember countless discussions about this and coming up with some hilarious names”. When we landed on Misfit Johnny, it just kind of stuck” said John.

“Tired of hearing the same bands playing the same songs,” John continued, “all of the band members believe in our philosophy. This philosophy is not easy to sell to venues, getting gigs was and remains a constant challenge. Especially in the beginning, we knew we just had to play wherever we could and let the music do the talking”.

“When we built Misfit Johnny, we swore that we would never play those redundant and overplayed songs that every band plays, but we will play them when the room wants it. A lesson every band must learn, play what the people want (within reason).”

When asked about the band’s most memorable

experience, John says, “We always believe the greatest experience awaits us at our next gig. I am not sure we have a best experience, but we have had a few “worst” ones.”

John continues, “We consider ourselves truly blessed to be able to perform and entertain people. Being a musician is all about passion and emotion and the giving of one’s self. Being in a band is like having 4 spouses and when we perform there is a chemistry that has no equal. Because of that and several other factors, we create best memories every time we play.”

The band’s style of music continues to evolve and is not tied to a particular genre. “We started out as a 90’s alternative band,” John said, “Through growth as a cohesive band, we now pride ourselves on the concept of “playing to the room”. While we

are not a dance, rock, R&B or Pop band, we try to weave every genre into our play list with the core of our music in the rock genre. We feel it is important to have the ability to adapt to the energy that the room dictates. For example, there are some clubs we play that typically starts off with a 40 something crowd, but as the night progresses, the crowd gets younger. Having the ability to change up your music to something more “classic” for the more mature audience and then switching to something more “contemporary classic” as the room gets younger

is important. Of course, sometimes the opposite is true and it is always changing.”

Songs from bands like The Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Maroon 5, U2, and The Killers are just a glimpse of what you could hear at a Misfit Johnny show. “Variety is a key component to our set lists,” John states. “One venue owner recently told us between sets, ‘I have seen a lot of cover bands in my day, but have never seen a band

play “Machinehead” by Bush followed by “Shut up and Dance” by Walk the Moon. You guys killed it!’ We take tremendous pride in entertaining and being performers.

After a performance, the band asks themselves, “did the audience have a great time and will they look to come see us again”. John explains how he measures and reflects on whether the band has succeeded in accomplishing their goal. “For a band that’s only been around for 3 years, we are extremely proud to say we have accumulated more than 2000 fans on Facebook and it continues to grow.”

Misfit Johnny performs throughout Central New Jersey, however, here are few of its regular venues: Martell’s Waters Edge, Moby Dicks, The Cove, The Claddagh, The Chubby Pickle, the UpTown, and Play Sports Bar.

If acoustic intimate shows are more to your liking, the band has recently begun performing as what it calls “Misfit Johnny Unplugged”. It’s an acoustic/electric act designed specifically for dinner performances, happy hours, and smaller venues. This is done as a solo, duo or trio, depending on the venue size and needs.

Beth Wilnerby CLARE MARIE CELANO

Not many people today can say they’ve worked for a quarter of a century in the same job. Beth Wilner is one who can. This veteran bartender, who now tends bar at the Brass Rail in Matawan, began her bartending career at the age of 18 at the Andiron Inn in Marlboro after attending Woodbridge Bartending School. She spent 25 years mixing drinks, honing her skills, making friends and getting to know her customers, and enjoyed the entire experience. She only left the 25-year stint because the place closed down in May of 2010. “I found I really liked bartending and the money was good,” she remembered. For five years, she also worked

part time at Tom’s Tavern, a biker bar in

Farmingdale, while

maintaining her full time work at the Andiron Inn. “I’m a hard worker. I’m not a ‘sit arounder,’”

Wilner said. When Tom’s Tavern was taken over by new owners in September 2010, she left the biker bar

and decided to take a five-year break from bartending which lasted until she came to the Brass Rail almost a year ago. During her bartending career, she tried working as bartender at TGI Friday’s in Freehold. “I was only there for about 6 months when I realized that the corporate restaurant scene was not for me,” she admits. “After Friday’s I realized I liked working in a neighborhood

bar much better. I had worked at Andiron Inn for so long the owners and my customers had become like family to me,” she said. “I saw their families grow up and

they saw me grow up too. I worked there through my marriage, the

birth of my son, then my divorce. The corporate environment was much too impersonal.” That’s why working at the Brass Rail appeals to her so much. “It’s very much a neighborhood business where regulars go and it’s run by an independent owner, not a corporation,” she says. Wilner says she now has the chance to serve many of her old customers at the Brass Rail which she said is only 3 miles from the old Andiron Inn. The single mom lives with her son Anthony, 19, in their home in Howell where she enjoys tending to her garden. “We moved here about 8 months ago after living in an apartment for 13 years,” she said. “I really enjoy being outdoors, love gardening, barbecues and sitting on the patio or in the gazebo.” Wilner also enjoys spending time with her son, a student at Brookdale Community College, when their schedules allow. “We try to have dinner at least once a week or hang out and watch a movie. It doesn’t matter, as long as we spend time together.”

Summer Time Beers

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re at the bar. It’s probably summer time, and there are few things that go together better than a hot summer day and an ice cold beer. So you look around the bar at the tap selection and you have a decision to make. Which one are you getting?

When it’s hot outside a big heavy beer just won’t do. In the dog days of summer you can get awfully thirsty. If you pound a few big IPAs, you’ll find yourself calling a cab in no time. You need something crisp and quenching ... maybe a little citrusy or fruity.

Summer seasonal beers are refreshing, easy to drink and moderate in alcohol content. Here’s a list of beer styles to help keep you cool as the summer heats up.

Pale Ales & Session IPAs - On a cool summer night give me a pale ale and a campfire. Pale Ales and session IPAs are generally hoppy,

crisp and citrusy. I wouldn’t suggest strong pale ale in the beating sun though. Stronger and sweeter beers can leave you feeling dehydrated, but when the temperature drops a little and stars come out, it’s hoppy time.

Wheats, Wits & Hefeweizens - To be technical about it, all three of these beer styles are brewed with wheat. Wheat makes the beer sweet, fruity and a little cloudy. These styles are all light on the hop flavor and alcohol content as well. They are all refreshing and drinkable. Hefeweizens have a tendency to be a little sweeter, and have a distinctive banana and clove flavor. Wits are a little spicy and citrusy, similar to Blue Moon. Wits are normally brewed with coriander and lemon or orange peels.

Pilsners, Helles, Kolsch & Blondes - These are the quintessential styles of the summer season. All of these beer styles are moderate to light in sweetness, hop profile and alcohol content. Great after a game of softball or for a BBQ in July. These styles won’t leave you thirsty. Each style has its subtle trademarks and I suggest you try them side by side to tell the nuanced differences.

Shandys & Radlers - Part beer, part lemonade (or other fruit juice), these are the lawnmower beers. A few days into a heat wave and even the lightest beers can be too heavy. Shandys and Radlers are very low in alcohol and super citrusy. Think of an Arnold Palmer but with beer instead of iced tea, very refreshing.

Here’s to a great summer with great beer. Let me know what you’ll be drinking this summer on Twitter @TheBrewerBill

Cheers!

Golf Themed Cocktails

Club Haus:• 1 oz blackberry liqueur • 4-5 oz club soda

Haus is the German spelling of the word house and this drink honors all the international golf players who have mastered the game. Along with competing in the Masters Tournament itself, this normally solo endeavor becomes a team sport every two years when a select group of the best of the best of these players square off in the alternating biennial Ryder’s Cup and President’s Cup competitions. The Ryder Cup pits an American team against their European counterparts and the Presidents Cup matches the rest of the world minus Europe with their American golfing rivals.

Arnold Palmer Drink Recipe:• 2 oz iced tea • 2 oz lemonade Arnold Palmer has donned the green jacket three times as the winner of the Masters Golf Tournament and this was a favorite drink he frequently ordered. Having a mocktail on hand is a must for any gathering and if your home bar is hosting a golf themed party then this non-alcoholic cocktail matches the occasion to a ‘tee’.

Country Club Cooler:• 2 oz dry vermouth • 1/2 tsp grenadine (pomegranate simple syrup) • 3-4 oz soda, seltzer or sparkling water • 1 twist lemon peel • 1 spiral orange peel

Hole-In-One Cocktail:• 1 3/4 oz Scotch whisky • 3/4 oz sweet vermouth • 1/2 tsp lemon juice • 1 dash orange bitters

A betting man would lay odds on masters of the game being able to ace the tee shot over other professional golfers and certainly amateur duffers. There have been 73 holes-in-one in the history of the actual contest, with a record five aces shot during the 2002 Masters Tournament. Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Shake thoroughly and strain into a chilled glass.

Hole-In-One Shooter:• 3/4 oz melon liqueur • 1/4 oz apple brandy • 2 dashes cream

Tradition has the player scoring an ace required to buy a round of drinks for everyone in the clubhouse although many favor just buying rounds for the group they were playing with since it can get pretty pricey. Celebrating shooting that hole in one with your golfing foursome at your own home bar is truly priceless. Gene Sarazen hit the “shot heard round the world” during the 1935 Masters, holing out from the fairway on the par 5 15th for a double eagle. While not a hole-in-one, that’s a golf shot.

Augusta National Golf Club, host of the Masters Tournament, may be the quintessential private golf country club in America. Founded by the legendary amateur player Bobby Jones along with Clifford Roberts who later became chairman of the club. Jones also helped design the course with Alister MacKenzie.

Pour the grenadine syrup and half of the carbonated water into a collins glass and stir. Add ice cubes and vermouth. Top off with seltzer and stir again with a long bar spoon. Garnish with the orange spiral and the lemon peel twist cut with a channel knife so the end hangs out over the rim of the glass similar to preparing a horse’s neck cocktail.

Bobby Jones Cocktail Recipe:• 1 1/2 oz brandy • 1/2 oz Crème de cacao ( chocolate bean liqueur, dark ) • 1/4 tsp grenadine • lemon juice

Fill a cocktail shaker with 4-5 ice cubes. Add brandy, creme de cacao and grenadine. Squeeze in fresh lemon juice and shake. Strain into a chilled tumbler.

Top PublicNew Jersey’s

As with so many things New Jersey is known for, rich and abundant golf courses are yet another thing for us to boast about. Our tightly packed state features hundreds of courses of all types, reflecting the

growing popularity of this rather genteel sport. The number of men, women and children taking up the club continues to grow. Golf is perhaps the only sport that effectively combines social play with

Hominy Hill(Colts Neck, hominyhill.com)

Hominy Hill is considered one of the “crown jewels” of the Monmouth County Park System’s golf courses. This course is a Robert Trent Jones design classic, and is often rated as New Jersey’s number-one public golf course. Hominy Hill has been the host of two USGA National Amateur Public Links championships and numerous regional championship tournaments. The course measures 7,049 yards from the blue tees and has USGA course and slope ratings of 74.2 and 131 from the blue tees. There are 138 bunkers throughout the course, with water coming into play at four holes. Course amenities include a well-stocked golf center, GHIN handicapping, food concession snack bar, warm-up range, and an immaculately manicured putting green.

AN ACT OF GOD I know it’s traditionally said that the Jews are God’s chosen people. But evidence to the contrary is currently on view on Broadway, where “An Act of God” opened (or reopened) on June 6th at the Booth Theater on W. 45th St. God’s chosen people actually appear to be — gay sitcom stars! Call it the big reveal left out of the Book of Revelation. How else to explain the presence of Sean Hayes, the perky gay star of “Will & Grace,” taking over the role of the Almighty, which was initially played by Jim Parsons, the goofy gay star of “The Big Bang Theory.” Technically speaking, Mr. Hayes is not portraying God. In his boundless mystery, God has chosen to come before us in the guise of Mr. Hayes. “For lo, I have endowed him with a winning, likable personality and know of a certainty that

A Review

your apprehension of my depthless profundities will be aided by his offbeat charm.” The Almighty is not wrong about Mr. Hayes’s appeal. Just as Mr. Parsons made for an endearingly cuddly deity, so does Mr. Hayes. He almost looks like a grown-up cherub and he channels the same fresh-faced boyishness and impish zest that made the character Jack a constant scene-stealer on “Will and Grace.” God has taken corporeal form — a holy being doing so for only the second time in Christian history (it appears to be working out better this time) — in order to correct mankind’s dire misconceptions about His thinking and His works. A certain set of Mosaic laws, specifically, have begun to grate on His nerves, despite their undeniable popularity. “Yea, I have grown weary of the Ten Commandments, in exactly the

same way that Don McLean has grown weary of ‘American Pie,’” he says. And so he has come before us to expand the list. Or rather rewrite it, since some of the originals were too good to let go. God is accompanied by two archangels: Gabriel, who mans a Gutenberg Bible, reciting quotations at God’s command; and Michael, who takes questions from the audience and eventually, to God’s annoyance, begins challenging his ideas. Michael loses a wing for his impertinence. But mostly it’s just God up there, chatting away like an amiable neighbor who has just settled down on your sofa for a good gossip. Aside from the inevitable jokes about “Hamilton” — one is tiring of those, but I’ll give God a pass — and

t h a t r e a l e s t a t e m o g u l

who has improbably become the presumptive Republican presidential

nominee, “An Act of God,” remains essentially the same show, a gut-busting-funny riff on the never-ending folly of mankind’s attempts to fathom God’s wishes through the words of the Bible and use them to their own ends. In Mr. Hayes, God has a delightful infinite-wisdom delivery system. His God is by turns comically admonishing, affectionate and just occasionally petulant, as who would not be when his carefully laid plans have resulted in, well, the world in its endless imperfection. The last performance (this year) of the show will be Sept 04th. So, if you wish to see this very funny comedy, get your tickets today.

Adam LucidiVenues-NJ: From a small town in Pennsylvania to NJ and NY and TV. When did the dream start for you? Were you still a kid when you knew this was it or did you realize after you had a few real jobs?

Adam Lucidi: This all started when I was in 5th grade. We had a talent show at my school and there was dancing, piano playing, and tons of girls lip syncing to Spice Girls songs. I decided to do a ventriloquist act with a monkey puppet. Obviously I wasn’t good at being a ventriloquist at all, but it got a lot of laughs. From that point on, I knew I wanted to do something that would make people laugh. Stand-up didn’t really enter my mind until I was about 14 or 15 years old. Then I did my first open mic when I was 16.

V-NJ: : Speaking of real jobs, do you have one or is this thing called stand-up comedy it?

AL: : I’ve had a bunch of different random jobs...which is where some material actually comes from. I worked at an arcade (REMEMBER THOSE!!?) I worked in a bar/restaurant, I’ve been a dog walker, and I’ve even been a door man for Calvin Klein on 5th Ave in NYC. But for now, stand-up comedy is basically the only job I have.

V-NJ: How does your family feel about your chosen profession?

AL: At first my family was surprised that I

I have known of this month’s featured comic, Adam Lucidi, for a few years now. I’ve seen him in person, on TV and in videos. He’s funny and he’s one of those guys that “get’s it”. Considering his small town roots you’d never know it from his act. You’d swear he was NY born and bred.

wanted to be a comedian because when I’m around them, I’m quiet and shy believe it or not. I’m actually a quiet person in general. But once they saw me perform and see how amped up and passionate I am about comedy, they couldn’t have been more supportive.

V-NJ: How’s the rest of the year shaping up? Where can we expect to see you over the next few months?

AL: : I have a lot of weekends booked all the way into November as of now, so that’s a blessing. I’m so grateful to have my calendar booked out in advance. But what to expect from me over the next few months is just me bouncing around all over the area and making sure audiences have a good time and get to forget about all the crazy crap going on out in the world. I usually post a lot of shows to my Facebook and Twitter pages. But there’s also a bigger calendar on my website adamlucidi.com

V-NJ: Of all the comics you’ve worked with, anyone that stands out as someone who’s been something of a mentor and how so?

AL: I try to learn something from every established or veteran comedian that I’ve worked with. So many of them have given me a

little nugget of advice whether they realize it or not. So whenever I notice one of those nuggets, I try to pack it up and put it in the back of my mind to apply it later or remember it. Sometimes it has to do with a joke being punched up, sometimes it has to do with hosting, and

sometimes it can even be something to apply personally and professionally. Regardless, I’m thankful for all the comedians that I’ve worked with over the years and have given me some sort of advice, whether intentional or not.

V-NJ: Any expectations of where you might see yourself in 5 years?

AL: Hopefully within 5 years I am on a television show or doing some commercials. If not, then I hope my Pug is still alive in 5 years.

As Adam said, you can find all his upcoming shows on Facebook, Twitter or his own website.

The devastation brought on by Hurricane Sandy is widespread and has had an effect on virtually everyone in the region. Most individual municipalities have set up

their own relief centers, benefit organizations & fundraising programs. However, there is a

Central Call Center set up to get information & assistance for emergency services, housing assistance, food &

medical services, family services, etc.

Call 211 or go online to www.nj211.orgYou can also contact this Central Call Center to volunteer or make a donation to the Hurricane Recovery.

About BBBSOC: Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County was founded in 1997 by a group of community volunteers concerned about at-risk youth in Ocean County. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County is a not-for-profit youth agency, an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and a certified United Way Agency. The agency is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of volunteers committed to the vision of mission of the agency.

In the 17-year history of BBBSOC, all of the Littles in our program have finished high school and continued their educations in college or trade school, often despite considerable odds. Our program is making a difference in Ocean County.

FOCUSMain purpose; the center of interest or activity; focal point; cornerstone or linchpin Whether it be a product, a service or a thing, to be useful or meaningful, “it” should have a main purpose or focus in order to be understood and helpful. Something that exists, but has no understandable or has no long term purpose is often referred to as a gag or a fad. In the hospitality business, a restaurant, bar or pub establishes its existence or presence by presenting itself as a venue with a definitive reason d’être. This is expressed in its variety of offerings, while always fitting to its main focus. Examples: an Italian restaurant is not going to be serving Shepherds Pie; a Japanese restaurant does not offer kielbasa as a main course. The business establishes itself as a venue offering a specific collection of ethnic offerings and builds its brand accordingly. In the publishing business, most successful media establish and present themselves with a main focus so that the audience knows what to expect and reacts accordingly. News organizations are expected to present the latest news; sports media bring us a wide variety of major sporting events, etc. Some publications do widen their scope and offer “lifestyle” information. But, that’s how they present themselves and that’s what their audience expects. Venues NJ has established itself strictly as a dining & entertainment medium and is being offered through multi-media outlets and platforms as such. That is our main focus and the information we provide, both in our editorial features and advertising messages is exactly what our audience have come to expect. The staff at Venues NJ has dedicated itself to this main focus and we will continuous to do so …. because our readers have told us that’s what they want and that’s what they expect from us. We hope you agree and we promise to continue offering timely information on these two areas of interest: Dining & Entertainment.
