Restoring cityhood
There are 88 cities in Los Angeles County.
42 cities are under 40,000 in population.
7 cities are between 40-50,000 in population.
Venice has approximately 40,000 residents and would be in the population mid-range of cities in L.A. County.
Where does the Money come from?
Here are some typical sources of revenue for cities.
Getting Cityhood Procedure #1
LAFCO – Local Area Formation Commission
Both L.A. and Venice would have to vote for separation.
For “disincorporation” petitions with signatures of 25% of Venice registered voters must be obtained.
Getting Cityhood Procedure #2
Amend the Cortese/Knox-Hertzberg Act of 2000.
Add a “Buyer’s Remorse” clause that would allow former cities to vote to withdraw.

cityhood: No we can’t!
Forget about the big ideas, the high concepts. Forget about our quality of life in the neighborhood. We must at all times live down to the accepted pattern of modern behavior that says – ‘We must always act in a way that betrays our own self interest, we must always give up. We must always accept that change is impossible and failure is our destiny. It’s too hard, too far and too much.’
