Join the Mecosta County community on 11-11 at 11:00am for the Veterans Day Parade on Michigan Avenue in Downtown Big Rapids. Parade line-up will begin at the Big Rapids Library with pre-events in Pocket Park starting at 10:45am to include a performance by the Big Rapids Middle School Band. At 11:00am the Big Rapids AMVETS 1941 Honor Guard will have their annual rifle firing followed by the Call to Colors, three (3) rifle fires and TAPS. Next will be our own local resident and business owner of the Old Pioneer Store and Kilwins, Carleen Rose, singing our National Anthem. The AMVETS 1941 Motorcycle Riders will then lead things off down Michigan Avenue followed by the parades Grand Marshall’s, six (6) Korean War Veterans. The parade will also include numerous Honor Guards, Veterans groups and Veterans support groups, floats and much more. Big Rapids Middle School and St. Mary’s Catholic School students will be lining the streets to show their support with numerous business and organizations providing plenty of hot chocolate and coffee. Following the Veterans Day Parade, the Big Rapids AMVETS Post 1941 will be having a gathering for all Veterans and family and friends. There will be hot dogs, chips and more to celebrate and honor our Veterans.
