Dear prayer partners, Greetings to you in the mighty name of Jesus Chrsit, who commanded us to go into all the world to make disciples! The incredible story of Bihar in India reminds me of the book of Ezekiel Chapter 37 of dry bones coming to life again. A situation that seemed dead and hopeless is being revived and reinstated constantly. Many years ago Bilhar was rated highly for its religious, cultural and political influence that spread to the religions in neighboring countries of Sri Lanka, Japan, Tibet and much further. Bihar gave birth to many major world religions. History also indicates that Bihar enjoyed a great wealth of natural resources and in 1950 it rated as the third richest state in India. This good rating however started declining and a once prosperous state is now the most corrupt, least literate, most lawless and above all one of the poorest states in India, according to an article in India Today on 5 December 2005. Christian movements and a presence which dates as far back as 1792, remind us of the many missionaries, their wives and children, who gave their lives in the land of Bihar and became ‘the kernel of wheat’ that fell and died for the salvation of the people of Bihar. Their graves are in various parts of Bihar and are a constant reminder of the blood, sweat, and tears that were shed for the people of Bihar. Many years later, Bihar is still in a dire and dilapidated state with a declining Christian population, ruined churches and a strong opposition to Christianity. Two hundred years after the first missionaries set foot in Bihar state a second revival started sweeping the land. Through the prayers of many people around the world the hearts of the people of Bihar were softened and they began responding positively to Christian activities. The despair and hopelessness of the people, as Bihar lost its former glory, encouraged them to look for an alternative hope and they found it in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Since 1990, leaders started to proclaim the vision from Ezekiel Chapter 37, declaring that “Bihar will be no more known as the graveyard of missions but will be transformed as a vineyard for missions.” With the united efforts, the people of Bihar are experiencing a wind of revival and the movement is growing everyday. There is now great joy as we see the same people who had rejected the Gospel and vehemently opposed it now coming to the Lord. Today an average of 1500 people accept Christ every month and three house churches are planted every day. There are many amazing stories coming out of Bihar! Churches are being revived, strong movements of young people and women are coming to Church, and spiritual and physical healing are being witnessed. A situation once declared “the graveyard of missions” has finally become “the vineyard of missions.” Testimony I am Birendra Kumar and I belong to Mushar people group. We are known as Dalit people – oppressed and suppressed in the society. Mushars are considered as the lowest caste among the Dalit people. We are the poorest of the poor in Bihar. In my family we have our parents and brothers and sisters. I am married and have children. We were non-literate as we had no opportunity to go to school and study. We used to worship several gods and goddesses represented by different idols and also Hindu gods. However, there was no peace in our family. We used to suffer with many diseases and spent our money in doing rituals to please the gods and goddesses. We also went to a witchdoctor and did all kinds of magic to get healing from diseases. People in Bihar (the life in Bihar)

All my dear prayer partners and supporters,

As some of you know, we are here in states for a while taking care of some personal issues. While I am here, our ministryin India is going well.

I gave power of attorney to Mr. Lijo K Jose to handle the finances, Pastor P.V. Babu is in charge of spiritual leadership, and my father can personally sign for me.

In every state, we have state leaders:• Pastor Vijayan - Tamil, Nadu • Pastor Paul - Andrah Pradesh • Pastor Johnson - Bihar • Pastor Shaji John - Central India • Pastor KS John - Maharashtra / Andrah Pradesh

I am in touch with them mostly every day by phone and email. We need more of your prayers and financial support these coming days.

Blessings,In His great Mission

Shajan

(Testimony: continued from front) One day an evangelist came to our village and told us about God and Jesus Christ. He also left with us a device which had some messages and songs in our Bhojpuri language. We all liked it and so our whole family and the neighbors – about 30 people gathered every day and listened to the device. Since it was operated by solar energy we charged it and started hearing the songs and the messages several times and for several days. We all felt that Jesus Christ is the true God and that He saves us from our sins and heals us from sickness. However we had many questions. My father had been affected by a paralytic stroke and was suffering, not able to walk. He was suffering like this for five years. We spent a lot of money and took treatment from several doctors. But my father was not healed. We also went to several witch doctors and spent money on all kinds of rituals. But nothing helped us. We as a family were greatly troubled, discouraged and living in misery.

After some days the evangelist came again to our village and started asking us how we feel about the messages that we heard through the play back device. We responded positively. We requested the evangelist to pray for our father who was bed-ridden. He earnestly prayed for my father and all of a sudden we saw some improvement in his walking and in a few days he was completely healed and was able to walk normally. Praise the Lord. Later we heard more teachings from the evangelist and accepted Christ as our personal Savior. After some days 29 people from our joint family and neighborhood accepted Christ and took water baptism in the Ganges River.

Sincerely, Birendra Kumar
