Manufacturer

The Directive 2009/125/EC (former 2005/32/EC) of the European

Parliament and of the Council establishes a framework for the setting of

ecodesign requirements for energy-related products.

Goal:

To contribute to sustainable development by increasing energy efficiency

and the level of protection of the environment,

while at the same time increasing the security of the energy supply.

Directive 2009/125/EC:

"Ecodesign" means the integration of environmental aspects into

product design with the aim of improving the environmental

performance of the product throughout its whole life cycle.

DIN IEC 62430:

“The goal of environmentally conscious design is the reduction of adverse

environmental impacts of a product throughout its entire life cycle.”

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA): Optimization of ecodesign parameters

 Demonstration of improvements possible regarding

 Selection of Materials and Processes

 Place of manufacturing

 Packaging Materials

 Energy Efficiency

 Recyclability

LCA allows long term cost savings by selection of

reduced energy/CO2 manufacturing and materials

LCA provides marketing arguments and makes

Ecodesign transparent to the customer

• Improvement between Product Generations

• Comparison of two products with similar functionality
